University of Scandal and Corruption - BostonCard - 12-20-2022

This is a *new* thread, as I'm pretty sure I've gone with this subject line before.

USC has finally been sued for defrauding its students.  To be fair, the suit alleges "USC’s Rossier School of Education used rankings that covered their in-person programs to highlight the strength of the online offerings, even though they had different selection criteria and student populations." but I think the allegation is probably more generalizable.

Is this different than the (IIRC) alleged claim that they falsified their numbers to get a higher ranking?

RE: University of Scandal and Corruption - BostonCard - 12-20-2022

Sounds like it.  It sounds like the specific allegation is that they were quoting reputation numbers from their in-person programs to market their online programs (beyond the allegation that they inflated their rankings).  Fraud upon fraud.

Good for the plaintiffs that California doesn't require reliance for a statutory false advertising claim.  No reasonable plaintiff could have relied on any marketing statements from U$C, let alone a statement from U$C about US News Rankings.  Talk about fraud on top of fraud.

Once they leave the league best to ignore them. An era has ended and everyone needs to muster their hate... for Sac State, Cal Poly and Hawaii.
