Does Geno get credit for UConn’s wins while he’s not coaching?

Yup, the substitute-coach-win-credit question gets asked often and the answer is the record (for better or worse) sticks with the head coach until he is replaced.
One notable instance came when the Warrior's Steve Kerr sat out the start of the season and his assistant, Luke Walton, coached the team to 24-0 out the gate. The NBA actually publicly addressed the issue and, as expected, the wins went to Kerr. NCAA records are their own animal but ... not THAT different. Auriemma's 2-Game flu won't help Tara in their head-to-head career wins race.

Too bad this approach doesn't apply to a coach taking a year off to coach the Olympic team while her assistants guide the team for a year, assistants she had trained and players she had recruited and coached before she left!

14 of Geno’s wins are games he didn’t coach, while Tara gave up at least 29 wins by coaching the 1996 Olympic team.

The year Chewy (the former Dook coach) took off because of a bad back, I believe the record (lotsa losses) stayed with the assistant that covered him. Sounds as if the coach misses an entire year, the record goes to the assistant. If it's games within the year, the record stays with the head coach, not the replacement.
