Palo Alto/Mountain View Restaurant - JohnVernon - 01-30-2023

I will be meeting a couple of young Stanford grads for dinner next month and would appreciate recommendations for a nice (but not stuffy) spot in Palo Alto or Mountain View.  This couple does not drink so a nice bar or wine list is irrelevant.  They would be open to any type of food and would appreciate a good atmosphere.  Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

We like Terun a lot. It’s Italian, on California Avenue. For Vietnamese, Tamarine on University Avenue is very good. If they want Indian, we’ve been going to Darbar since it opened in the mid-90s.

Cascal in Mountain View.

Tacolicious--second choice for above

JOYA

do you want indoor or outdoor seating?

we are still eating mostly outdoors and some of the local places we've been to recently include

- La Boheme on California St
- Camper in Menlo Park
- Local 271 on University
- Terun on California
- Pizzeria Delfina on Emerson
- Zola in Palo Alto, although our last two dinners there were disappointing
- The Left Bank in Menlo Park
- Vina Enoteca at the Stanford Barn across the street from the main Stanford shopping center
- Zotts (aka The Alpine Inn) which really has upped their food service under the new owners
- Portola Valley Lobster Shack (in the Ladera shopping center)
- Amber India on El Camino in Mountain View/Los Altos
- La Bodeguita del Medio on California

At the higher end, The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse.
Laid back but good product, Armadillo Willy's (Texas-style Barbecue) (San Antonio & El Camino)

RE: Palo Alto/Mountain View Restaurant - 82lsju - 01-30-2023

also Sundance the Steakhouse (fka Sundance Mining Company)

Chef Chu's for Chinese has always been a favorite of mine at El Camino and San Antonio.

Mings on El Camino. Ooops. Just kidding. And, what was the name of the French restaurant with the great coquille?

L’Omelette (“Lommies,” I think it devolved to)

+1. My mother in law's favorite. Osteria for pasta. Evvia for mediterranean.

I used to really enjoy MacArthur Park, but haven't been in literally decades. Is it still any good? (just noticed 3.0 stars on Yelp. Ruh roh...)

I thought that shut down decades ago.

Surprised no one has mentioned Sundance.  Great steak house.

Zott’s!

Seems we're repeating ourselves (the last two recommendations appear to have been made without realizing they were already mentioned).
