Super Bowl Thread - cardcrimson - 02-12-2023

Okay. Who ya got?

Don't have a dog in this one, but I'll take the Chiefs in a close one. I was about to take the Eagles, but the Mahommes magic. . . .

FWIW, I don't really care for the announcers. Man, I miss Madden and Summerall.

Highlights so far, late 60s/early 70s Alfa Romeo GTV in the Fast X commercial and the "Caddy Shack" beer commercial

How weak was Fox's lineup that Berhalter/Olsen were up next after Buck/Aikman left?

RE: Super Bowl Thread - Mick - 02-12-2023

It's interesting to watch non-egregious infractions allowed during the Super Bowl. When KC got called for the neutral zone infraction, it was clear that KD's DT lined up almost on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Reminds me of playing DE in a high school game on a dark field in the mud. The OT opposite me was lined up so far back, he was either on the line of scrimmage or clearly in the backfield. So I scooted up, and...neutral zone infraction.

Good game so far. The Eagles defense is very good at injuring quarterbacks.

Joe Davis, Adam Amin, Kenny Albert, Kevin Kugler, Chris Myers

Jimmy Jones is a legendary coach, but it’s time for him to retire from broadcasting.

I LIKE HOW WE WENT FROM "IT WASNT ENOUGH TIME TO ESTABLISH POSSESION" TO ".01 SECONDS IN MIDAIR IS ENOUGH TIME" IN THE SPAN OF 5 ***** MINUTES.

RE: Super Bowl Thread - Mick - 02-12-2023

Interesting approach to 4th-and-short. They seem to bunch up blockers much tighter then normal and they have two heavy blockers in the backfield who add to the overall push. Because it's legal to help the runner by pushing him, you just can't pull him. Makes sense.

RE: Super Bowl Thread - Mick - 02-12-2023

How much did Travolta get paid for that spot?

RE: Super Bowl Thread - BostonCard - 02-12-2023

Congrats to Justin Reid, who is now a Super Bowl champion!  Also, 7 tackles, 5 solo.

Noted that too. Amazing that the play clock seemed to expire multiple times, but the Eagles weren't called, unless it was egregious. Curious as to the play where the Eagles defender stuck the crown of his helmet into Pacheco's chest. Isn't leading with the helmet, especially the crown, a penalty?

Anyway, that Mahomes magic is tough to beat.

RE: Super Bowl Thread - martyup - 02-12-2023

That was a pretty good Super Bowl game.  I guess the Hurts fumble really made the difference.  Both QBs played well.

I don't know what you're talking about.  According to all of the Eagles fans on my feed, the refs were perfect until once call in the last two minutes.

So true. That said, that was a tricky tack call, but probably the right one. Don't think it changed the outcome, though.

Halftime show. First one I've watched in a while.

Perhaps I'm way too old and way too, eh old, but I thought it was awful. Actually liked the stage set up, really cool. But, she clearly mailed it in with no enthusiasm and lip synced the whole thing. Could do without the crotch and butt grabs, too. Read a comment somewhere that she looked like the Devil, dressed in red. Songs a snoozer, choreography interesting, though too much gyrations. Kept waiting for the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man to appear. . ..

Anyway, my teenager who sang every word, gave it a B. I, probably a C-. Liked the flying carpet stages, the rest, not so much.

It was perfectly decent.  Covered all of the major hits, a lot of lip-synching, but hey it's the halftime, you get what you pay for (i.e. you pay nothing).

The best part of the show was the fireworks at the end. Our family all thought the stadium looked to be a gigantic roman candle.

On another note, with the U2 Achtug Baby commercial and the flying sphere, I half expected a F-22 to fly in and shoot it down. . . .

Yes, good game by Reid. He's done well for himself. Was a favorite of Houston fans, and made a nice piece of change in KC. I recall two Bootleg regulars, who incidentally thought their analysis superior to all others, thought he wouldn't make it in the NFL. And they unmercifully mocked a play by him late in his last season where he thought he had a chance on a throw into the end zone. He misjudged the length of the throw, back pedaled as fast as he could to defend, and fell down as he tried to jump for it. It was a clear mistake, and he realized it, banging on his helmet as he left the field.

And to former 49er, Jerick McKinnon.  Four carries for 34 yards, and three catches for 15 yards.
