XFL? -

Tuned into my first XFL game today. Largely empty seats in the stadium. What do you think about this new football league? Are there any former Stanford players in the league?

Kyle Murphy (OL, Defenders) and Alijah Holder (DB, Sea Dragons) are the only two of which I am aware.
And for what it's worth, Cal, SJSU and Sac State all have two players in the XFL.
UCLA 3, USC 6. Oregon 6, OSU 3, Washington 8, WSU 4, Arizona 1, ASU 4, Colorado 4, Utah 2.

Pay probably pales compared to the NFL, but maybe it's a way for unheralded players to prove themselves and work their way up to the NFL.
With everyone mic'd up they really have to watch their language. Keeping their language clean must be emphasized in practice because every football sideline I've been on it was pretty salty.

It does. Players will make about 60k plus benefits for the season.
Not much, but it pays the rent and beats minor league baseball. More then I made for 10 years after college until finishing residency. It remains to be seen how many can make the jump to NFL but if you’re not ready to give up the dream for a few years it doesn’t seem a terrible option.

Quote: Including other potential bonuses, the average player would be estimated to earn about $60,000 from training camp through the end of the season. The XFL also valued its benefits package as worth an additional $20,000, in addition to paying for housing and two meals a day during the season.
For context, NFL practice squad players will earn a minimum of $12,000 per week in 2023. The minimum salary for NFL players on the active roster in 2023 will be $750,000.
Some quarterbacks are expected to receive higher salaries, although not as high as in 2020, when the XFL signed some passers to deals worth up to $500,000.

I'm good. Not at all interested in another football season of actual games from March to April. I'm only interested in NFL draft and free agency.
I'm way more interested in F1 starting next weekend, baseball, NBA, NFL offseason stuff, than I am the XFL, which I will not be watching.

"Let's make this thread about me."
Hey, will you be watching? I'm not sure that was clear.

XFL and F1?!? Pfft. I'm way more interested in the USFL. Looking forward to seeing Gordie Banks and the Oakland Invaders reunion. Actually had season tickets and still have the watch that came with them somewhere. . . . .
And on another note, stumbled upon LIV golf this weekend on TV. Much prefer the PGA, as they require the guys to wear long pants and don't allow the Bermuda shorts the LIV players were wearing--not a good look on a lot of those guys.

I thought there was more discussion here about LIV Golf, but I didn't find a good thread. Seems like it is going out with a whimper:

As for the XFL, the original subject of this thread... less than a year after the post was made, it merged with the USFL to form the United Football League, which I guess is still a thing? I find it hard to believe that $5,500 a week salary is competitive with NIL, but I guess I don't know what the bulk of college players are making on the high end.
