Who is in charge??? -

May I bring this back to the who question? Who at Stanford is in charge of solving this? MTL? Persis? Bernard? Board member? And who is doing the work? In house? Consultants?
Without the right who, the outcome will be suboptimal to the already deteriorated expected value.

Thanks. This is the brobdingnagian question. It appears no one but hope to be happily surprised

I think it is probably the Board and Muir, working through MTL's position as a Pac-12 president (lame duck). Someone really needs to step up here and take the reins. Maybe even a megadonor.

Not specifically for Stanford, but good to see some movement on this front ...

Thanks for the link. The quotes in that article from former Fox exec Bob Thompson are really interesting.
His Twitter feed is good as well:
https://twitter.com/rltsports?lang=en
He has lots of thoughts as a former TV sports exec:
- OSU should go to the MWC and try to dominate until the next round of re-alignment in 2029-2030
- An independent Stanford would be worth more than BYU was but nowhere near ND. The problem will be finding desirable matchups especially if the B1G goes to a 10-game conference schedule.
- And this one: the schools need better leaders if they're letting TV decide their futures.

Where's our Alexander Haig when you need a person to take charge?

Now that is funny. I remember that day well

I'd rather have Luck than Haig....
This turn of events seems very Stanford-relevant. Thanks for the find.
My evolving preference is:
1. Keep the 4 together and operate as an A5 conference as long as allowed.
2. Collect whatever it is owed and split the collection four ways. (Better to be rich and desperate than poor and desperate.)
3. Understand the financial reality moving forward, which includes the previous preferential item.
4. Reach out to SDSU, Fresno State, SMU, ,Tulsa and others from the MWC and AAC to explore multi-sport OOC scheduling and ultimately expansion.
5. Reach out to the Modest Eight ACC teams to explore multi-sport OOC scheduling alliances and an an ultimate Coast to Coast All Star Conference, when those teams are eventually kicked to the curb. Strong divisional play organized by geography, with rotating conference championship games in Seattle, Spokane, Portland, San Francisco/Santa Clara, San Diego, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, New York, and Boston.
6. World domination.
7. Profit.

Quote:The failure to accept market reality led the Pac-12 presidents last fall to reject an offer of $30 million per year (per school) from ESPN for the entirety of the conference’s football and men’s basketball media inventory, according to JohnCanzano.com.
Instead, the presidents instructed commissioner George Kliavkoff to pursue a deal in the $50 million per-school range.
“Two or three schools were interested in that number,” Schulz said. “The discussions were that we really had to close the gap on the Big Ten. The commissioner went off with those numbers, which were unrealistic for sure.”

Quote:One week after presiding over the collapse of a 108-year-old conference, George Kliavkoff’s role remains unchanged.
“He’s still our commissioner, and there have been no discussions with him besides him intending to still serve,’’ said Washington State president Kirk Schulz, chair of the Pac-12 Board of Directors.
“In my conversations with how to move ahead, George has been exemplary in terms of making sure the four remaining schools have options … He’s still making the day-to-day decisions for the conference office and preparing us for the fall. We still have a (competition year) to produce.”
However, numerous discussions about the future of the conference have taken place without Kliavkoff’s involvement, according to a source. The presidents and athletic directors of the four remaining schools (Stanford, Cal, Oregon State and Washington State) are in frequent communication.

Thanks cctop for that Bob Thompson twitter feed. It should be required reading for anyone who claims authority status on what Stanford should do moving forward. I readily admit I'm as far away from being an authority as it gets. At the moment I like Stanford trying to rejuvenate a PAC-X conference because there doesn't seem to be any good alternatives right now.
It looks like Stanford is now focused on exploring all options actively. I'm encouraged by this. I would like to see the athletes polled about their feelings on travel to ACC or B1G for future reference.
