Semi-OT: Profile on San Diego State men's basketball - cctop - 02-22-2024

I didn't realize that San Diego State men's basketball had 20 wins in 18 of the last 19 seasons.

Certainly a what-could-have-been example for Stanford and a good example of how winning will fill the stands:

It's certainly a little about context, i.e. who you play (conference), isn't it?

I've been saying for years that we should try to hire Dutcher.  He might not be interested, but he needs to be on the short list when Haase (I pray) gets fired in 3 weeks.

It's just a snapshot in time, but the Mountain West is a better men's basketball conference than the Pac12 or ACC. Current RPI Rankings:

1. Big 12
2. SEC
3. Big 10
4. Mountain West
5. ACC
6. Big East
7. Pac 12
8. A10

11. Ivy

13. WCC

(The Mountain West should petition for a "Power 7".)

To call Haase's coaching performance hot garbage is an insult to temperature.  For crying out load, Cormac Ryan is getting shout outs on ACC's In The Huddle. I watched Harrison Ingram destroy Duke. Since Haase can clearly take top-level ACC talent and turn it into collective dreck, he demonstrably has no business coaching in the ACC.  And it's not like he ever lit up the Pac12.  He treads near .500 only on the back of weak non conference opponents.

Stanford isn't likely to get a Dutcher, but who is the next Dutcher?

I'll settle for the next Montgomery. Who's coaching Montana these days, anyway?
