WWP: #1 UCLA 15, Stanford 8 -
M T - 03-30-2024
I wish we could see this game, but I have to settle for
play-by-play.
Stanford WWP didn't look good at the beginning of the season, having lost essentially their whole first team to the Olympics. But the coach and players have improved. They looked pretty good against ASU last week. They started off looking good against #1 and undefeated UCLA.
Q1: UCLA 2, Stanford 3
Stanford looking good, never trailing.
Halftime: UCLA 7, Stanford 6
Stanford led for most of the first half, but undefeated UCLA scored a goal 3 seconds after a Stanford goal to tie it, and then scored again just 38 seconds later with 0:01 at the end of the half.
Q3: UCLA 11, Stanford 6
A disaster of a quarter. I can't see what happened, but Stanford got a Yellow card and then a Yellow/Red 6 seconds later.
UCLA got a penalty shot but missed. But they still beat Stanford 5-0 in the quarter. Ouch.
Final: UCLA 15, Stanford 8
It would have taken a miracle to come back. UCLA pretty much sealed it with a goal on the first possession, and then a goal on a 6-on-5.
I had hoped Stanford had improved enough to take on UCLA, but no.
The next 3 WWP games are at Stanford (USC Sat 4/6, Indiana 4/14, Cal 4/19) and are available on PAC-12 network. And then the MPSF tournament.
