I grew up in LA following and trying to imitate Jerry West. I switched allegiance to the Warriors when he came over to build the Warriors.

...and an old-school, genuinely good guy. Rare attributes of today's big-time sports. He, Bill Russell and Bob Cousy were my earliest hoops idols.  FWIW, Scott Ostler of the SF Chronicle (paywall) wrote a gem of a column today that summed up West damned well.

The news is not entirely off-topic, as Jerry West is the father-in-law of Stanford women's golf alumna Michelle Wie West, who married Jonnie West.  Condolences to the West family.

No matter how good a person you are, how many championships you win, or how wealthy your are, no one defeats the ultimate champion . . . TIME.

RIP Mr. West.  Your legacy will live on in the NBA logo.
