Four Stanford players including Macario selected for USWNT - Leftcoast - 06-27-2024
Four former Stanford players made the USWNT team including Macario. (Tierna Davidson, Naomi Girma, Catarina Macario and Sophia Smith)
Some folks are critical of past faves that did not receive an Olympic invite, for instance Cal’s Alex Morgan will watch from the stands, but I like these selections.
Good to see Catarina’s name on this list! Has anyone seen her recent play for Chelsea? How’s her post injury form?

Jane Campbell is an alternate.

Haven't seen her play for Chelsea, but have a bit for the USWNT. She looks maybe to have lost half a step but her skills and creativity are just so good it doesn't matter. Very excited to see her play in Paris.

Some of the USWNT fans still get too attached to the familiar favorites. Morgan has exactly 0 goals this year in the NWSL. No way she should have made the team.
4 Stanford players is the most for any school. UNC and “no school” tie for second with 3 apiece. Note I am not counting alternates.
I like the youth and the versatility of the players. The key question will be can the midfield hold up - it mostly hasn’t in recent years, and it has a couple of familiar faces. I am bullish on Coffey and hope CM is fully back to bolster the mids.
