In a similar contradictory theme to "The King is Dead, Long Live the King!" ...
It is ridiculously sad we are joining the ACC, Great to join the ACC!

A little early. The official date is 8/2, although ACC Football Road Trip will visit Stanford on 7/31.

Nice to see all the logos there. I know not all the schools were wild about the Pac-12 contingent.

We should do one like this.  Maybe with Trees traveling the Panama Canal and making their way to Miami?

Yesterday was the last day for the Pac-12 Network.

Ashley Adamson posted a blog on her thoughts as it went dark, after going all 12 years from beginning to end.

Among other projects, she will be joining the Big 10 Network.

How about a line of Stanford quarterbacks and other great athletes, maybe Albert, Norman, Brodie, Plunkett, Boryla, Dils, Benjamin, Elway, Edwards, Husak, Stenstrom, Tavita/USC, Andrew Luck, Hogan. Throw in McCaffrey, Lofton, John Lynch hitting Jerome Bettis, etc.. Quotes from opposing coaches (Barry Switzer on Elway, Pete Carroll on the Biggest Upset Ever, the 55-21 USC rollover, McCaffrey breaking the Rose Bowl all purpose mark, recent upsets over Notre Dame and Colorado, etc.). Throw in Stanford's long list of College HoF coaches (Walter Camp, Fielding Yost, Andy Kerr, Pop Warner, Clark Shaughnessy, Chuck Taylor, John Ralston) and Pro Football HoF coach, Bill Walsh.... Logos for the Sun, Orange, FIesta, Alamo and multiple Rose Bowls.  Lots of voice overs, quick tempo. Could have a lot of fun with it.

Good read. We always liked Ashley alot. She was prepared, full of info and knowledge, funny, and versatile. Wishing her well in her new endeavors.

When the news broke, I thought that the loss of years of competetive rivalries would  be a very bad thing.  Now I no longer feel that way.
What I really miss are those years where our game with USC defined the season.  John McKay vs John Ralston
"I want to beat them by 2,000 points"
"...I'm not going to get into a P****** Contest with a skunk"
Today, each game is mostly just another game.  The Big Game still counts but I don't get wrapped up in any other games like I did back in the day when we played USC.
Harbaugh started to bring back those same feelings and then he left us with a Stanford Man who couldn't lite a fire with a blowtorch.
https://trojandailyblog.com/john-mckay-hated-stanford-too/
So basically I still am a fan, but it doesn't make a lot of differnce if we we play Clemson, USC, Ohio State or the The Little Sisters of the Poor.

From a basketball perspective, I have much more interest in the ACC opponents than the old Pac-12 opponents. Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, BC, Wake Forest, Louisville, ND...very impressive names. Only four of last season's 15 teams had losing records, and nine of the 15 won at least 20 games overall...

As an LA resident and a Stanford fan, I will really miss the regular games against USC and UCLA. I could count on having a chance to see Stanford play in LA against either or both schools in all seasons. And they were often games of consequence because you would usually find some or all of Stanford, USC and UCLA at the top of the conference standings. I will also miss seeing Stanford in historic and great venues like the Rose Bowl, the Coliseum, Pauley Pavilion, Jackie Robinson Stadium, etc. Sigh. So many memories.

I do look forward to new memories against ACC foes. But they may be few and far between in football and basketball and less common in other sports. The ACC is a step up in competition compared to the Pac12 in sports like men's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's swimming, men's golf. I hope that Stanford will remain competitive but I don't have a good feeling about things. Still I hope to be able to watch live streams of most games and matches. Less access would definitely mean less fan interest for me.

Unless some unforeseen events occur like OOC games scheduled in the general vicinity of Seattle this will close the book on my attendance of Stanford games in person since I moved out of California about 6 years ago.  On the occasions when Stanford has traveled to UW I have borne witness to the following:

Football - 2018 (close loss), 2022 (blowout loss)
Men's basketball - 2020 (win), 2022 (close loss), 2023 (blowout loss), 2024 (blowout loss)
Baseball - 2022 (win), 2024 (win)

What are the odds that they add five more poles and a bunch of unfamiliar flags?

I wouldn't bother even putting up FSU

Don't forget Notre Dame. We'll see quite a bit of them.

Small pole. Tiny flag. Maybe just off campus.

RE: So long Pac-12 Hello ACC - Goose - 07-22-2024

IMO the best thing to do would be to fly the PAC-12 flags of Kal, WSU, and OSU as always. Fly the flags of Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah upside down, because they clearly were legitimately in distress when they left. Hoist the mascots of Oregon and Washington to the top by the neck and those of UCLA and USC by the feet. That would be a good expression of opinion for at least a year :-).

UPDATE: I didn't forget Colorado. I regard their leaving the PAC-12 (PAC-10 at the time) as addition by subtraction. IMO they never were "all in" for the PAC-12. They are on the wrong side of the Rockies. The BIG-12 was a more natural fit and where they really needed to be all along. I bear them no ill will at all for departing. Glad they did, for both them and the PAC-12. Utah, Arizona and Arizona state are not in that category.

RE: So long Pac-12 Hello ACC - terry - 07-22-2024

I never liked the idea of flying our opponents' flags on our campus. I really doubt that USC or Cal ever flew a Stanford flag on their turf.

Obviously, the name "Pac-12 Plaza" has to go. But I don't see any need to call it "ACC Plaza" or to fly ACC flags.

We should just fly 12 Stanford flags on those flagpoles.
