Ahh yes, of course. Thanks.

Right, thanks.

RE: ACCNX - CardinalSagehen - 09-06-2024

We have YouTube TV, which caries ACCN and enables us to access ACCNX over streaming.  That's much better than I could ever say for the Pac 12 Network. But the bummer is that we can't record the game, as far as I know. Does anybody have a trick for this?

It's not a big deal in our case because we'll be at the game, but I sometimes like to rewatch certain plays when I get home.

It looks like the game is being rebroadcasted on the standard ACC Network (not ACCNX) on Thursday at 5AM PT, for anyone that wishes to record it and watch it after the fact.  (Savor the victories these days, my friends...)

RE: ACCNX - qwerty49 - 09-06-2024

It looks like Sling has ACCNX but there's no program description in the 4pm Sat timeslot.

RE: ACCNX - murky - 09-06-2024

I watched some other content on ESPN app including ACCNX.  The quality wasn't very good compared to Pac12 network on Dish.

Hopefully our game will look better than the BYU game does.

On my system, the ESPN video resolution is mediocre regardless of whether I watch through Comcast HD channel or the ESPN+ web site. With volleyball, it doesn't interfere much because the shots are fairly close up. However, it's noticeable with soccer.

Re recording, what type if computer and/or mobile device are you using? We are an Apple household. I have long-standing projects that require screen recording. As well as sports. The surefire way is mount your phone (camera) in a tripod, set the camera to video, point it at the screen where the game is playing, and record the game. Many sports broadcasts now block direct recording from the screen. If a game isn’t blocked, I use the built-in iOS screen recorder on mobiles. On my Macs, I use Camtasia.  Filmage Pro is a cheaper alternative, but be sure you install it on the correct machine. Moving the license to a new device is a pain. There are a host of other options. Finally, there’s this solution developed by one of our resident computer aces. Here’s the path: The CardBoard > C-House! > Private discussion > Capturing Pac-12 livestreams directly from the network.  If we need to pursue this, I suggest a new thread or email.

Thanks for the tips. I didn't see them in time, but it was moot because I got Covid from my son and couldn't make it to the game anyway. Alas, my 10-game losing streak at Stanford Stadium continues.

The quality of ACCNX today was reasonably good, in the end. The announcers were both former Pac-12 Network announcers - Roxy Bernstein and the color guy who played at Wazzu.  I thought they were very redundant with their 3-4 notings of our high degree of returning production and starters - it's not really such an attribute when our absolute production was so low last year, but in any case, they only needed to say it once.

That said, it was clear that they had followed our team over the years and they were familiar with it. The production quality was perfectly fine, too.  I wonder if the P12N infrastructure was utilized to shoot this game?  It felt very P12N-like but on the high end of P12N camerawork and quality.  Keep in mind that my expectations were very low.

You would think that ACCNX could sell more commercials for these broadcasts.  They played their own ACC promotional ads over and over, which tells me that they had no paid commercials to play.

You are right about that.

As it turns out, I have first-hand experience with finding deals in the remnant media market for ACCN ads. ACCN is not the same as ACCNX but the same problem exists.  I used to order TV ads on ACCN and SECN for my company in the weekend afternoon and evening slots, but we'd "day-block" out Sunday and low-ball the bids.  The goal was to "sneak" into live college football broadcasts on Saturday without actually paying the much higher spot prices for live football. Without sharing too much, the tactic worked and we were trying to clear as many of these spots as we could for several years. Of course, ACCN knew what we and others were doing - if they had full-price buyers for the spots, ours would not have cleared.

On a related note, P12N fell so low last year that you could buy remnant ads for < $50 - again not explicitly during football, but during wide windows that could include football. My buddy and I considered creating and airing some sort of anti-SC troll ad that would be subtle enough to pass through the compliance review for a while. We had a clever idea for the ad creative (which escapes me now), but we never got around to it.

The Pac12 ads were often low-end and regional. The ACCN may not yet have the in-house experience to reach these advertisers. Maybe they can recruit a couple former PAC-12 salesmen. Maybe the ad value for a Cal Poly game on streaming was too low to make much of an effort. Seven more games could possibly be on ACCN or ACCNx.

You would think, like Sagehen pointed out, that there would be remnant ads floating around that could be played rather than repeating an ACC promo 3 times in a row.  Maybe advertisers restrict airing their ads to specific geographic regions and none wanted to have their ad aired in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area where I live.  I don't know how that business works.  It seems like a lost opportunity for both the network for not earning any revenue for that air time and businesses for not getting low cost air time to promote their products.

RE: ACCNX - ca245 - 09-09-2024

For all the grousing about PAC12-NET and PAC12-BA, they carried almost all games on cable, so (1) I could watch on a big screen TV and (2) record for later watching if inconvenient to watch live. With ESPN+/ACCN+, I have to stream. Yes, there is a “Replay” but not always. For  example, yesterday’s WSoc game vs USC is not available on replay.

Yep, Pac 12 tv was great for Stanford fans. ACCn has to cover the teams of 18 members. For now, won't include many Stanford matches, will it?

Many would disagree with both of you, including anyone with satellite TV or a cord-cutting TV service (rising to 40% of American households) that didn't include P12N, such as DirectTV or YouTube TV. We couldn't even get P12N games!  By contrast, ACCN and ACCNX seem to be available to everyone with a live TV service.  The Pac-12 Network actually helped kill the Pac-12 due to horrible distribution and monetization. You will never get me to say anything nice about it.

I agree that the inability to record or go back and forth is annoying. But you can definitely watch ACCNX on your big screen.
1) Install and run the free ESPN app on your smart TV or modern streaming device (such as Roku Stick for $30).
2) Find and select the game under NCAAF / Where to Watch.
3) When offered to watch either on ESPN+ or ACCNX, choose ACCNX. (The ESPN+ option leads to a paywall for $11/month.)
4) Enter your login credentials for your TV provider. (Any provider that includes ACCN should entitle you to ACCNX for free. This should be a one-time only step on your streaming device.)
5) Enjoy on your big screen!

Another option is to follow the same steps on your laptop or mobile device and cast the game to your big screen, but the quality might be a little less.

RE: ACCNX - BobK - 09-09-2024

The Pac 12 channels were excellent. There my opinion

RE: ACCNX - amytmueller - 09-09-2024

The Pac-12 Network was the ONLY reason we stayed with Comcast cable (and internet) for years.  Once it was gone, we cut the cord, signed up for YouTubeTV, and ditched Comcast internet for AT&T fiber.

Also: ESPN+ records games and makes them available for at least a few days afterward.

I have frequently criticized the Pac-12 Network's distribution model.  In part, that was probably created by their management: the 12 Pac-12 university presidents.  But sticking with the big cable networks was a losing proposition and got worse over time.  When fubo.tv came along, I was finally able to watch Stanford sports.  But I refuse to break my 2+ decade streak of never paying a cable TV bill.
