Plunkett and NFL Hall of Fame - Mick - 10-23-2024

Jim Plunkett advanced through the second round of reductions among Seniors candidates for consideration into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There are 31 Senior candidates who remain in the running for the Class of 2025. There were initially 182 Senior candidates who were nominated for the opening round.

In this past round, each committee member voted for 25 players. The top 25 and six ties are advancing to the third phase. The 31 are as follows:

QBs: Plunkett, Ken Anderson, Charlie Conerly.
RBs: Roger Craig, Ottis Anderson, Chuck Foreman, Cecil Isbell, Paul "Tank" Younger
WRs: Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, Stanley Morgan, Art Powell, Sterling Sharpe, Otis Taylor
OLs: Ox Emerson, Joe Jacoby, Mike Kenn, Bob Kuechenberg, George Kunz, Jim Tyrer, Al Wistert
DLs: Jim Marshall, Harvey Martin
LBs: Carl Banks, Maxie Baughan, Larry Grantham, Clay Matthews Jr., Tommy Nobis
DBs: Lester Hayes, Albert Lewis, Eddie Meader, Everson Walls

The next cutdown is in three weeks and will be a cut to nine semifinalists. In early December, the committee will discuss the nine semifinalists in depth, and three will advance to the full selection committee.

Plunkett won two Super Bowls with the Raiders and was MVP of SB XV when the Raiders beat the Eagles in 1981.

Plus...one of the greatest comeback stories in NFL history. Put him in!

Hmmhh ... based on my memories rater than a thorough review of the stats I have opinions.

If only two make it I choose Plunkett and Harvey Martin, one each from the offensive players and defensive players.  Apologies to Lester Hays, Roger Craig, Billy Johnson, Everson Walls, and Carl Banks. (and NO, I'm not a Raider fan!)

Thanks for this thread.  I had forgotten that Mr. Plunkett was not in the HOF.  My guess is they're still discriminating against the ghost of Al Davis.
