Poll: Will Stanford Make a Change? - Row80Critic - 11-04-2024

Simple poll, yes or no:  will Stanford make a meaningful change affecting the football program before the beginning of next season, such as a new head coach, new AD, new transfer policies, NIL, or similar?

(New offensive or defensive coordinators, without more, should not be counted here as meaningful changes.)

Why? The program has unfixable problems that transcend coaching. Anyway, firing the coach after such a short time would just turn off anyone else from taking a shot at it.  I say learn to stop worrying and love the blowouts.

Stanford needs to come up with a long-term plan, not try to make quick fixes. There is no way this plan would be developed and approved by June.

So it takes two plus years to decide you need to come up with a plan and then how many years to decide what that plan will be? As many companies have discovered, if it takes you that long to decide to make a change in todays day and age, it is going to find you lost in the dust.

i don't think we'll make a change.  should we?  hard to say.
i wonder if U$C will make a change.  they have one thing in common with us.......they're in 15th place in their conference.

A significant change does not have to mean replacing the head coach.  It could mean hiring an offensive coordinator and replacing some assistant coaches.  That level of change may not be sufficient to make Stanford a winning team, but a refusal to make even that level of change tells us we remain in a situation no different than during the end of the Shaw years — a situation in which total failure is acceptable, and there is absolutely no accountability for it.

Well...the end of the Shaw years followed the beginning of the Shaw years.    He was also an alum that more or less didn't blame the decline on things on outside trends that now seem like impossible challenges.   As with Haase I feel Stanford's loyalty will not be returned should Taylor start winning.   If Taylor repeats the Haase pattern he will stay with Stanford until someone decides firing him is 4 or 5 years too late.   If Taylor turns it around, he will be gone faster than players chasing sweet NIL deals from higher profile programs.

I am not sure Taylor can recruit HS players and I am even less confident Taylor can recruit top tier coordinators.   I wish he would start with finding an OC so that he can outsource those QB talks after failed drives to someone that isn't expected to support the defense and special teams too.

( ( ( * * feverishly checks every spot of bingo card, fails to see "Andrew Luck GM" anywhere * * ) ) )

Well, I guess this means Stanford doesn't have "get off the treadmill" on their bingo card either.  Or "give Troy Taylor the ol' heave-ho" for that matter, this holiday season anyway.....

Definitely a left field play, but better than no play.  I could see it being a meaningful change, and I could see it being window dressing.  Time will tell.

I swear whenever there is an online poll and there is an overwhelming result, the opposite happens.

The woofing gods.

We should create a poll as to whether we will make a Bowl Game next season.

It seems pretty obvious that HC, OC and QB coach should be at least 2, if not 3, different people.

I notice we have 2 guys coaching the OL.  I wonder how their responsibilities are split.

And what exactly does a "quality control coordinator" do?
