Nicknames of Note - Angry Bird Edition - Leftcoast - 11-18-2024

I usually hold off until Wednesday but I'm in such a good mood following the unexpected win on Saturday that I can't wait.  By the way, it's CLEARLY JJJ's week so I hope he also bought a lottery ticket.

#1) JJJ:   It’s the bird vs It’s not the sin, the bird, or the papal emissary.  It’s just the color
#2) Cardcrimson:   Nickname pre Kennedy vs Nickname post Kennedy
#3) SkiBum80: Louis Ville Armstrong vs Stan Ford Getz

Shout outs to:

• Martyup: Moonshine vs Zinfandel
• MV72018. Sluggers vs Slugs (and similar nicks from CPSteeple, PVTree, etc) – Clever, but the team made sure it wasn’t your week for podium stardom

More reason to induct JJJ to the Stanford Football Prediction Game Hall of Fame.

While Zins are great from Napa and Sonoma and close to the Farm, Moonshine has it roots in Pennsylvania, not Kentucky. . . .

"In the United States, moonshine originated in Pennsylvania after the newly formed federal government enacted a tax on distilled spirits in 1791. Large distillers were able to pass on this cost to their customers, but smaller producers, such as farmers in western Pennsylvania, protested the tax."

Thanks, Lefty. That was a nod to my fellow Roble-ites from the early 80s when we actually shouted that at the games! :)

Oh right, the Whiskey Rebellion, they invented moonshine to avoid taxes, Washington sent in 13,000 troops to collect taxes, etc.

Pennsylvania might have started it, but Kentucky perfected it.
