Emmet Kenney, NFL prospect -

I didn't realize Emmet Kenney had the leg to be considered a valid NFL prospect, but apparently he's attracting some attention:

Yeah I had not fully appreciated how well Emmet Karty Jr. has been doing.
And he'd have a bunch more kick opportunities if Coach TT wasn't the 4-and-go-for-it-analytics-obsessed guy

I think this is a "homer" article. Kenney hasn't shown the basic leg strength required for the NFL as of yet. The comment that his 52 yard game winner would probably not have reached the crossbar from 57 yards is the issue. That won't cut it in the NFL, no matter how accurate you are. When one is now seeing field goals from 60+ yards somewhat regularly in the NFL a very strong leg is becoming critical.

SI. No thanks.
No mention of any actual NFL interest (because there isn't any (yet)).
"A senior, Kenney’s eligibility runs out after this year which raises the question of what his future in football will be." Wrong. He's a RS Jr with one more year remaining if he wants it.

That was such a weirdly written article, mostly regurgitating numbers. Was that written by AI?

Exactly. SI now is mostly swimsuit with a bunch of AI Writers and maybe still some volunteer, fan stuff.

Kenney was a big prospect coming out of high school. He set a North Dakota high school record with a 58 yarder. Although that article doesn't have major credibility, I think he could have NFL potential.

Kenney doesn't get that many field goal chances from a distance because Coach often goes for it when other coaches might otherwise kick.
That being said, Kenney's average for all FG's of 13/15 = 87% is right around NFL median for FG kickers having more than 10 attempts this season.
As far as longer ones, for 50+ yard attempts, Kenney's small sample of 2/3 = 67% is pretty close to NFL average.
For NFL kickers of record so far this season on 50+ attempts they are in total 121/169 = 71%.

Looks to me like he's good to 52, but he can't get KO's deep enuf to preclude a run back. With the new NFL KO rules, maybe that's a strength:)

Possibly true about KO's but definitely a question mark for an NFL place kicker. I am pretty sure he walked on Senior day. That doesn't absolutely guarantee he will move on, but it appears highly probable. His broken hip may have limited his ability to kick long field goals at an NFL level. He had a 58 yarder in high school, but he doesn't seem to have that range today. Of course, the good news for him is that range is something that can be verified in a practice session. If he shows the NFL he can kick far enough, he may get a shot.

From what we've seen he's got good college range but questionable pro range - Maybe/Maybe Not. If Karty sets the bar for what it takes to make the NFL these days then he's a stretch.
By the way, a friend reports that Karty's family went to some of the East Coast games to support Kenney and his in-the-stands family. Good to see that family solidarity among the players families!

Kenney is going to have to put his resume up against this field to have a shot, though granted, not everyone listed is in their final season. Accuracy has to be a strength if he's not going to get many chances.

While SI is mostly AI stuff now, this article was written by Dylan Grausz who is a recent UofA alum who has taken up the Stanford beat. His articles are not always 100% accurate but he does write almost an article everyday on Stanford sports. In a world with little to no media coverage of Stanford sports, I'll take it.

Some of the few kickers who are drafted flop.
