Not sure, but they probably weren't but should have been in 1981. That was the year SJS kicked Stanford's butt 28-6. Particularly embarrassing because Stanford had two of their all-time greats that year, John Elway and Darrin Nelson. Supposedly SJS coach Jack Elway just tore into Paul Wiggin after the game because of how poorly he felt his son was being coached.

P.S. Interesting that Wiggin was 1-3 against SJS but somehow found a way to beat Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Washington (when the Huskies were ranked #1 in the nation). A characteristic of his teams were sometimes they showed up to play and sometimes they didn't. I remember walking out of the stadium after the Washington game saying to myself, I'm sure glad we won but why can't we play like that more often.

Good knowledge (and memory).
And it may have been the same two years later ('83), Wiggin's swan-song season. I suffered through both games and both seasons. As bad as those seasons were, those Stanford teams were far superior to the ones we've seen in the past two years.  Far superior.

Junior Varsity is usually the underdog vs the Varsity team.

I think it was because John looked to have severely sprained his ankle and was hobbling around the backfield. Clearly noticeable to everyone in the stands and on the field, except Wiggin. The opposing coach flipped to being a dad, and it was great to see. I think that was one of the moments that drove the selection of Jack a couple of years later.
