Oregon looks like Iowa when they played in a Rose Bowl I attended long ago.

My take, exactly. The 3 wk. layoff didn't exactly "rest" the Ducks. It should inspire a new seeding scheme for next year.

Always happy to see Oregon lose. Even to OSU
I’d give the first seed the choice of who they want to play. Oregon undoubtedly would have picked Boise State. Second seed picks next etc.

I agree. This is the "fairest" way possible. If it is all according to chalk, so be it and nothing really changes. If the "rankings" do not reflect what the number 1 seed regards as reality, the number 1 seed should be able to enforce their choice, and so on down the line.

would you do that in each round?

Yes. I’d also do it every sport I can think of. NFL, NBA, MLB you name it. One thing I think it adds value to the regular season.

I actually kind of like what they do in pre-season tennis. Adapted to the CFB playoff, you assign the four top seeds and give them a bye (in my way of doing this, the four top seeds would still be reserved for the top conference champions, since they have already won their conference championship game). Then you let the remaining eight teams decide, in order of descending seed, where they would want to go.
This year, you would have had the same four byes: Oregon, Georgia, ASU, and BYU. The next seed then chooses where to go, presumably into the game that feeds into BYU or ASU. Then the next team (Penn State) has a choice, whether to face Texas early on the road for a chance to go up against BYU or to go up against ASU and host a team. Let’s assume they would prefer to host the first round game and go up against ASU in the quarters. Then #7 Notre Dame. Again, they have a choice of hosting a first round game and going up against Oregon or Georgia or playing at Texas or Penn State for a tougher first round match but an easier second round match. Notre Dame might pick getting a home game and to go up against Georgia. Now comes #8 Ohio State. Maybe instead of hosting a game, they decide to play at Penn State (since they already beat Penn State in the regular season) for a chance at an easier second round game if they win. #9 Tennessee jumps at the chance to host a game, even if they have to play Oregon if they win. #10 Indiana sees Tennessee as the easiest first round matches and goes there; #11 SMU relishes the chance to go to Texas rather than Pennsylvania in the first round, while #12 Clemson is left with Penn State.

I've long thought 8 conference champions only and reorganize college football into 8 regional conferences by ten or twelve or however many teams. Conference championship games would be epic because that
is the path to the playoff. And Notre Dame can join the ACC or **** off.
Since that will never happen, I love the idea of top seeds naming their opponents. The twitter wars would be insane.
What on earth is pre-season tennis? But, that's a cool system too.

not to mention the cries of "disrespect" from the opponent chosen by the top seeds....

Yup. In a sane world, the losers of the BigTen and SEC championships would not be alive for a national title while the winners of those championships are bounced, but here we are.
