so our ACC opener is Sept 13 vs BC so apparently the SJSU game it either moving to a new date of being replaced (hard to imagine the later given we already need a 12th game), maybe it will more to the Sat after Thanksgiving...

Better hurry. Even Oregon State and Washington State have full schedules now, though they have a home and home with each other.

OSU is already playing quite a Groupof 5 and FCS teams so a 2nd game vs W
SU may be their best option.
ND is still sitting at 11 games.

Stanford needs another home game. They only have 5 on the schedule right now, 4 conference games + SJSU.

Stanford will host Boston College on 9/13 in its ACC season opener. SJSU was on the schedule for that date.
Stanford is at BYU on 9/6.
So another date is needed fot SJSU and the 12th game is still not announced.
Cal, Florida State, and Pitt are the other home games that will be on the schedule.
The full ACC schedule will be announced at 60m Monday on ACC Network.

Who would want to come and play in front of an empty stadium? We currently have a lousy product on the market and there probably are not a lot of buyers.

if you pay them enough they (the other team not the fans) will come, I don't think playing for a big crowd was why Mercer played at Alabama last year or in 2021 or in 2017....a couple of places say mercer was paid $600K for the 2024 and 2021 games.
https://www.tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/college/football/2022/08/04/alabama-football-schedule-mercer-bears-2024-non-conference-sec-scheduling-changes/10236107002/
of course we probably pay a lot less given our much smaller attendance...

There's a rumor online that Stanford-ND will happen this year in the Rose Bowl.

I would put better odds on Wembley stadium but given the state of college athletics these days literally nothing is impossible.

Stanford and Notre Dame both have 11 games on their 2025 schedules, and Notre Dame is scheduled up until 11/8. 10/11 is a possibility for both.
Why would either team do this? I get that the Rose Bowl holds 89,702 but do they think they can sell that many tickets? Or do the teams just want exposure in SoCal?

ND plays in LA every other year already, not sure what incentive for a game there would be unless it is a bigger cut of the ticket sales than a game here. If it did happen it would mean five home games for us, which might be a win for season ticket buyers....

Maybe this is the reasoning:
First, Stanford has lost two biennial games in SoCal against UCLA and USC and we need the exposure.. Only two of our twenty 2025 recruits were from SoCal. We could/should be cleaning up there. We have home games against Cal and SJSU this year, we don't need a third one in Stanford Stadium. Play it in SoCal. The red hots can go to the Rose Bowl, especially since it is a neutral site.
Second, Notre Dame plays USC in South Bend this year. Assuming they do this every year, it gives Notre Dame exposure in Southern California
every year instead of every
other year. Notre Dame has lots of subway alums and there are 7 million Catholics in Southern California. They can probably find 35k to 50k who want to go to the game. Notre Dame draws very well for their USC games, and UCLA draws better than average for their Stanford games at the Rose Bowl than most other teams, or at least they did.
Third, likely more television exposure in a larger venue with many more people. Good for everybody. ACC would probably be happy with it.
Fourth, it gives Southern California Stanford alums an opportunity to attend the Rose Bowl game as the home team. Also, they can have the "old" Stanford Stadium experience, assuming a large number show up.
Fifth, as a Stanford "home" game, it should boost Stanford's average home attendance, which is good for all kinds of reasons. Stanford's last home game against Notre Dame was 30,091 attendance...which is not good for anyone.
