Along with the King papers (held by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research & Education Institute at Stanford), I hope the university can find a building befitting the historical importance of these sources and artifacts.

Planning of a new facilities project to move the MLK Institute and papers to a location in the main Quad was just underway ~ a year ago. Not sure exactly where to but I believe it'll be the W-NW end of the Quad (toward Lomita Mall). This was tied to the recruitment and hire of a new director for the Institute, Dr. Lerone Martin, from WashU in St. Louis.
Wondering if the CHS papers would possibly be moved into the Cummings Art Building, since the bulk of Art & Art History's admin and teaching staff moved over to McMurtry (next to the Rodin Sculpture Garden) a couple of years ago. This would make sense due to proximity of Cummings to Green Library and the History Department/Bill Lane Center - I'm just not sure if there's sufficient studio space in McMurtry to accommodate transition of studio art activity from Cummings.

The Cummings Art building is long gone, replaced by the Traitel Building affiliated with the Hoover Institute

The Art Gallery building that was next door is still there
the article says the CHS collection has 16,000 linear feet of material which I assume is mostly in bankers boxes, which would be about 4,000 feet of a four tier shelving system which I would SWAG would occupy about 20,000 square feet (assuming shelves three feet deep and that the shelves are placed back-to-back with a four foot aisle between the back-to-back shelves

Thanks - not the first time I've totally lost track of facilities comings and goings on campus. It'll be interesting to see if there's any mention of plans for a new facility or any major renovation to accommodate the CHS collection in the university's 2025-26 Budget Plan. That should be available online in ~ June. Of course, the DAPER section of the Budget Plan should also be v-e-e-e-e-r-y interesting....
