Would you consider Stanford’s spring open practice a game?

Yikes.

I wonder how many entered the portal because after Spring practice they weren't happy with where they thought they were in the depth chart as opposed to Rhule's assertion that other teams saw how those six did in spring practice and "stole" them

RE: Relax, we are not Nebraska - fullmetal - 02-01-2025

Yeah, the six would have to be largely starters if Rhule's hypothesis is correct.  Guys who expected to get playing time and didn't (or guys who were shown up by emerging younger talent) could have been reading the writing on the wall and transferring to greener pastures.  And if the six who transferred went to less-regarded programs, then it's a bit less worrying.

Here were the six:
Feels very obvious which case is correct here.

Ah, yet another installment of "Nebraska coach whining about things to distract from team performance."

Despite the evidence presented above but listening to other coaches (especially FCS) whose players have been basically bribed to leave, it seems to me there's actually a lot of illicit backdoor recruiting and tampering going on around the country. I'll be very glad if and when this Wild West atmosphere gets under control...if it ever does. Who's gonna bell that cat, though? No idea.

On the flip side, Deion Sanders publicized the hell out of Colorado's spring game in year 1 so all the players he'd cut would have something on tape.

Yes, it's absolutely widespread and happening constantly. There are a ton of examples from all over the country. Unfortunately the above Nebraska situation is not one of them, which is why it was counterproductive to include in the article.

I think best for Stanford to forge ahead with whatever tools are available to field the best possible team, in this chaotic landscape, with no assumption that any one body will cleanly and comprehensively reign in the wild west atmosphere.
Who would do such reigning in? Congress? NCAA? And whatever they tried not upended by another court case?
So I applaud bringing in Andrew Luck, boosting Lifetime Cardinal, and whatever else reasonable and possible, not waiting on someone to bring order to chaos.

Or we could decide that the Wild West is incompatible with the University's values.

It is not my decision to make, but if it were, I would seriously consider that - including effect on student-athletes, non-athlete students, donations, future liabilities, etc.
