The Super Bowl - BostonCard - 02-09-2025

Wow, what a dreadful game.  I had no dog in the fight, but it was a boring game, Brady is an awful color commentator, and even the commercials were dreadful.  Lamar is not my style of music, but regardless of what I think of his genre, the audio quality sucked.

That’s 4 hours of my life I’m not getting back.  Don’t @ me.

We had four different kinds of mustard for our six different kinds of sausages. That was the highlight of our SB party.

Chiefs suck, I hope Mahomes retires, they go 0-17 next year and they deserved to lose the Super Bowl for the 20 flags the refs didn't throw that the Chiefs deserved in last year's Super Bowl.

Vic Fangio was one heck of a DC for us and is one heck of a DC for Philadelphia

As a fan of Jalen Hurts since his days at Bama, I thought it was a terrific game.  I enjoyed every minute.

RE: The Super Bowl - fullmetal - 02-10-2025

I enjoyed Vic Fangio dismantling an under-invested-in Chiefs OL.  Thomas Booker and Tanner McKee got their first Superbowl rings.  Some mind-boggling ineffectiveness from Kelce and Hopkins.  I'm crediting Fangio for the interceptions, btw, I think the Eagles defense really read Mahomes' tendencies under pressure, and boy did they bring the pressure.

I nodded along to the halftime show, and then read up on all the hidden meanings on the internet.  It was a pretty fun halftime show.

RE: The Super Bowl - BostonCard - 02-10-2025

The problem with the halftime show was the audio quality, not the performance.  The choreography was pretty well done, and apparently they dancers really were in the car (https://www.wired.com/story/true-story-behind-kendrick-lamar-super-bowl-halftime-show/).  I am vaguely aware of the beef between Lamar and Drake.

Evidently I wasn’t the only one hating on the commercials, which were truly by and large awful, made worse by the fact that those companies paid $8 million for a 30 second spot.

Quote:The trends? Nothing controversial, as you would expect, but also — and perhaps for associated reasons — very little creativity. It was a bad year for ads; the ones at the top of this list aren’t much better than average. More spots than usual depended entirely on the appeal of a relatable celebrity (who was almost certainly male). Concepts beat ideas — there was a lot of fussy, overly complicated silliness and not much in the way of simple, effective storytelling or mood setting.

Fangio's single year at Stanford was 2010, the year they went 12-1, ranked #4, gave up 226 points and dismantled #12 VaTech 40-12. 52 of the points came to #4 Oregon, 35 to USC. The year prior, they gave up 317 points.

Just looked up Fangio's defensive record with the 49ers. The 49ers' defense was ranked 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 10th in the NFL in his four years.

The Eagles have another Stanford connection. One of their cheerleaders Sam Loui is a Stanford alum. She is also warrenloui's daughter!

Pretty interesting bio: Sam Loui

It’s awesome that three former Dollies are or recently were NFL cheerleaders and in or about to be in law school

Fangio did all that without dialing up a single blitz. Two picks a strip and one sack short of the Super Bowl record.

KC put some dressing on the end, but that was like watching my Broncos get destroyed back in the day.

That's what you get when your left tackle is a converted left guard.

And when the center hikes the ball and can't figure out whom to bock while two monsters run right by him. It happened more than once.

Thanks all!  Very proud mama and papa were at the super bowl to watch her.  Daughter was exhausted by Monday morning, they are kept very busy with appearances that weekend.  We love New Orleans and they and the NFL did a great job (We had never been to a super bowl but it was a lot of very expensive fun).

Just a couple of minor nits:  Sammy majored in Engineering Physics and minored in Theater and Performance Studies (she couldn't fulfill her last theater requirement due to COVID).  Of her three Dollies their sophomore year who are/were NFL cheerleaders, two are in law school (Syd at Pepperdine and and Sammy at NYU) and the other (Grace) is going to Harvard Business School.  Since she is at NYU, she has been commuting to Philadelphia three times a week for practices, games and appearances.  We're not sure how she is able to do it.

She was at DLA Piper last summer doing IP law and will be at Goodwin this summer doing emerging company work.  I think this is her last year (her 2nd), but she keeps on threatening to try out for her third year (they all have to try out each year, last year 1/4 of the squad was cut). [sorry, 1/4, not 1/2 of the squad was cut]

Thanks!
