Crappy Stanford fans can't even sell out bowl tickets in 4 days. -

From Stanford football's facebook account:
Stanford Football
We sold out Stanford's Fiesta Bowl ticket allotment (17,500) in just five days, which is something to celebrate!

So much about Stanford fans not willing to travel.

Also so much for the notion that playing winning football doesn't really affect fan support to a significant degree.

I am not thrilled about the Press Release. It was almost a given that Stanford would get to 17,500 for a BCS bowl game so close to so many of our alums. However, 17,500 is really just the starter allotment. I am sure there are thousands of tickets floating around. Announcing that Stanford has sold out might make some believe that there is no need to go. That's not true, each Stanford fan that attends replaces an OK State fan.
The Press Release has a mission accomplished feel, that is just not the case with bowl game ticket sales. Yes, the conference met the contractual requirement, but the AD should still be pushing to get more Stanford fans into the stands.
It is worth noting that last year Oklahoma sold ~8,000 and Uconn sold ~5,000, so it is noteworthy that Stanford "travels" better than Oklahoma. Something the conference should note and promote next year.

What's this?!?! Farm93 criticizing the athletic department for putting out an upbeat press release in support of Stanford and its fans and garvin coming to the AD's defense??!?!? :o :o
What's next? Dogs and cats lying down together?????

I doubt anyone decides to go simply because they thought Stanford din't sell out the allotment. If anything, I think this announcement is more likely to encourage those who plan to go to make their ticket arrangements soon instead of risking not finding tickets later (most folks know about third party ticket sources).
In balance, I think the procrastinators who get off their butts and get their tickets after seeing this are more likely to outnumber the folks who see this and decide there are no tickets to be had anywhere (the latter group were probably looking for some excuse to not go anyway).

I know, I know. But seriously, the press release should have mentioned that the Fiesta Bowl still has tickets available in other allocations and for those still seeking tickets contact XYZ soon before those allotments are sold out too.
I remember back in the day...each Pac-10 team got a Rose Bowl allocation. Almost immediately after the Big Ten team clinched a Rose Bowl birth the race was on. The Big Ten team's official allotment would sell out almost before the final whistle in the clinching game. And by Monday their fans would be calling lower tier Pac-10 teams' ticket offices looking for tickets in those allotments.
So the filling the school allotment is really just the starting effort. FWIW - OK State had sold 16,000 of their allotment through December 6th, so my guess is they are at a slightly higher level of support. OK State seems to bring something between 25K and 40K to these bowls, so 17.5 is nice, but...

Ah hah! Sure enough, today at 4:30PM the AD sent an e-mail that announced our allotment has sold out, but that people can still get tickets by reaching out directly to the Fiesta Bowl.
Whew! My faith in my beloved AD has been restored. :D

Actually, I suspect that there are Stanford AD lurkers on this board taking copious notes. The Cardboard = real time customer focus group feedback.
