Who is Giltay? Nice bucket from the frosh.
Oregon leads 16-12 with 12 minutes left in the first half. FWIW, Oregon thrashed Utah earlier, so they're probably at least OK.

Giltay isn't the story. It's frosh Okorie, who finished the half going coast-to-coast and finishing with a pret-tay runner high off the glass. He has decent size, plays ultra smooth, and has everything you need to be a scoring force driving to the basket. I think Braun said Smith has named him the starting PG.
Also, Stanford defense looks very sharp. Oregon could also be described as lackadaisical (lots of turnovers).
Stanford leads at the half, 34-32 over Oregon.

Stanford leads, 57-51 with just over 6 minutes remaining.
Final thoughts from me, as the final score literally will not matter:
+The team defense looks to be pretty outstanding, with players really fighting to get into passing lanes and playing pretty decent on-ball defense
+I think I'm most excited about the lack of turnovers. The announcers noted that Stanford returned 9 scholarship players, and, while that number is a bit misleading in that some newcomers are going to play MAJOR roles, I do think that helps (as does good coaching).

A very happy surprise. Okorie was very impressive

An encouraging game. Yes, Okorie is the real deal. Aggressive defense. Young will help when he returns, but is there any hope for Toure as a rebounder? Skrinda and Giltay are good around the basket, and will get better, but can they jump? Kamman is stronger than last year, but we will have trouble with big talented rebounders. Otherwise very encouraging. Is Batson injured?

Oh wow. Is it too early to start worrying about whether Smith will leave for greener pastures? What might we do to keep Smith for the rest of his professional career?

Okorie, our frosh PG, was 9-10 FT. Absolutely early 00's Mike Montgomery-esque vibes. I like this guy already.
Everyone with a positive +/- rating and at least 10 min of playing time has at least three years of collegiate experience. (One grad transfer with significant minutes with a -7, but no biggie.)
The team 33.3 3P% and 78.1 FT% will hopefully improve.
Oregon: 19 TOs, Stanford: 7 TOs. Wow. Two steals for Oregon, nine steals for Stanford. At first glance, I would say that Oregon rebounded better, but rebounds aren't points.
It's just an exhibition, but this team might be really fun to watch this year.

Oregon was considered to be just outside the top 25 so there are a lot of positives as others have posted. The 7 turnover number really stands out. Okpara was a diamond in the rough when we got him froom the Ivy, last year he was over 40 percent from 3 and seems like he hasn't lost the touch. He just looks more like an NFL middle linebacker than a round ball player.

I hear Oregon was missing their starting PG, which might have made a difference, but it's still a good sign that Stanford was able to put together a win behind execution from a lot of the team.

Oregon absolutely demolished Utah with the same lineup, sans PG.

I’m curious about some of the guys who didn’t play - was it due to injury or have they been passed up by the others? I think Donavin Young is injured, but Toure and Kristers Skrinda, the Latvian freshman, didn’t play either.

Neither did Batson (may be injured) nor Thompson play.

Agree on Okorie... 4.0 out of Brewster Academy, NH. He was admitted to Harvard also.
Could be a redux on Brevin Knight, Stanford career assist leader, first round NBA pick in 1997.
Okorie shoots well, handles the ball naturally, and penetrates. He is s dual threat. Just a frosh. "LIKE"
More worried about taller foes. We will be out-rebounded in some games this year. Speed and 3s will be critical.
