WBB: Stanford 90 -- Cal Poly 55 - 2006alum - 11-09-2025

Kicking off this thread. Last year we won comfortably, so another metric to see where we are compared to last year.

RE: WBB: Stanford v. Cal Poly - TheWildJacko - 11-09-2025

Ogden looking pretty good so far. Missed her first two shots but then made two straight.

And hits a nice midrange jumper as the shot clock winds down!

And Hailee Swain just pulled a Jeanette Pohlen, dribbling full court in 4.3 seconds and hitting the layup at the buzzer! We lead by 15 at the end of Q1.

Was just going to post the same! She's had a couple of lovely mid-range jumpers, which traditionally has been a weakness for us. If she can hit those regularly it will help our spacing tremendously. I've been vocal about questioning why she's been designated a starter but I like what I'm seeing today. Swain also aggressive about finding her way to the hoop - that's another look we haven't seen much of since Jones graduated.

Yes, Hailee looks great.

We could have used a kickout pass to Talana on that last play where we got called for a travel.

Perfect pass by Lepolo to Swain for the layup. And a nice 3 by Lepolo right before that. Agara also having a great game.

RE: WBB: Stanford v. Cal Poly - 2006alum - 11-09-2025

It was funny, I was just saying to my seatmates that Shay needs to stop going under the screen for McManis, who has gotten open on that to take an uncontested three three times off that, and then she fights to go over and fouls. Still, I'll take it, and I like seeing us adapt quickly on the floor.

Also like seeing KP having Swain run the point a lot. However much we all love Lepolo, we only have her one more season, so good to see Swain getting a lot of time to practice running our offense.

Also, Cam Brink spotting at half time. Chatting with Tara and taking photos with fans.

Ogden showed up to play today.  Nice to see her making plays.

Somfai another double double and we've barely started the fourth quarter.

Reversal of roles between Eschmeyer and Ogden in today's game vs last game.  Alex with 0 points in 10 minutes, plus 2 fouls.  Courtney with 9 points in 24 minutes.

Yes, I was talking up before the game how Eschmeyer was the most polished frosh big I could remember in a while and then she's gone and offered no evidence to support the assertion. Thiugh I will say 14 on their end has been extremely physical and has kept Alex from having much freedom of movement in the paint. Not coincidentally, she also had 4 fouls with 8 minutes to play....

Somfai with a double-double, again.

RE: WBB: Stanford v. Cal Poly - TheWildJacko - 11-09-2025

Amborn 3-3 from 3 so far this season. Lepolo 6-9 from 3 in the last two games.

triangle2 - triangle2 - 11-09-2025

Amborn has the sweetest outside shot since Karlie.

RE: WBB: Stanford v. Cal Poly - martyup - 11-09-2025

The Cardinal take down the Mustangs 90-55.  Agara was our scoring leader with 16 points and 7 rebounds.  Clardy and Somfai each with 14 points.  Lara added 10 rebounds to pull off her double-double, plus 3 steals and a brink.  Nice showing by Ogden tonight with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 brinks, and 2 steals.

Our guard play was excellent tonight. Swain with a solid performance with 12 points in 24 minutes with zero turnovers. Lepolo, still with the hot hand beyond the arc, scored 6 points on 2 of 3 shooting, and had 4 assists with zero turnovers.

This team is solid at the charity stripe, shooting 17-20 tonight. Making free throws will surely make the difference in closes games down the road.

I'm looking forward to watching this team live in Pullman this Friday afternoon.

5 players in double figures again—Agara, Clardy, Lepolo, Somfai and Swain—and very nearly 6, as Mary Ashley Stevenson had 8.

Nice balanced stat lines for both Ogden and Somfai.

I'm not sure how it might have influenced her play, but Eschmeyer was the 2nd. post (off the bench) behind Stevenson.  In the first two games, Alex and Mary Ashley came off the bench together.  In her defense, Eschmeyer posted up multiple times and never got a pass, but when she moved to the high post (and got the ball), she elected to pass and not take her defender off the dribble.  She just didn't seem that aggressive today.  We need Alex's aggressiveness on the road trip coming up, and frankly, we need her scoring if we are going to beat WSU and Gonzaga.

Thank you very much for the great photo. Represents good times in 30+ years of Stanford basketball.

RE: WBB: Stanford 90 -- Cal Poly 55 - OCcardinal - 11-09-2025

This was the third game in a row for Stanford with 5+ players in double figures. I believe this is the first time that has happened at Stanford since before the 2009-10 season (if ever).  With so many scorers, we can have a player like Alex score 0 points and it barely registers a blip in the team's productivity.  It'll be interesting to see how this plays out this season.  For the moment, I'm much less scared of key players committing fouls than I have been in recent years.

That said, Lara Somfai is one of only 2 players in the country with two double-doubles against Division 1 opponents already. I might worry if Somfai fouled out.
