Where are they now - Darren Daniel - terry - 12-13-2011
Darren Daniel, who transferred out of Stanford over the summer, landed at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi. He apparently opened the season as the starting quarterback for Itawamba, but did not play well. In four games at QB, he completed 24 of 75 (32%) for 324 yards, 1 TD, and 5 interceptions. Another QB took over and Daniel didn't have any pass attempts for the rest of the season, though he did have a few rushing attempts. He ended up with 36 carries for 135 yards and 5 TDs.

Was Daniel a case where the coaches thought they saw some potential but didn't pan out? Or did Stanford want him at a different position and he wanted to try his luck (no pun intended) at QB someplace else?

Daniel came to Stanford as a QB, but Stanford moved him to WR. If he had stayed at Stanford, he would have been a WR for us.

Bummer... things could have turned out better for him and us had he stuck around as a WR.

I remember watching him during the Spring Game where he showed potential by ALMOST making some big plays. It seemed like his transition from QB to WR was still a work in progress, but he had potential to be a playmaker.
You gotta feel bad for the guy. I'm sure he transferred to Itawamba Community College with the long term plan of wowing D1 schools with his ability to win a starting spot somewhere. What's plan B? They talk about a 4 year decision vs. a 40 year, and at present it looks like he chose poorly. Hopefully things work out.

I recall following an on-line chat with Doug Baldwin in which he singled out, (and did so several times) Daniel as a potential star. More so than JRP or any other receiver on the roster. Baldwin was convinced that he had All American potential.Â
FWIW, at least one report on a recruiting website compared his athleticism to Randall Cunningham. Granted, there's probably a tremendous amount of hyperbole in that last comment. But I think, given the state of our receiving corps, Daniel will some day regret not sticking it out here.

He wanted to be a quarterback. I think we will regret it more than him.
