GRIFFIN-LUCK 2 QB SYSTEM? REALLY? - wygbe - 12-14-2011

AFTER THE Voldemort, GRIFFIN CLAIMED THAT HARBAUGH TRIED TO RECRUIT HIM TO SPLIT TIME WITH LUCK IN A 2-QB SYSTEM. I FIND THAT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE WITHOUT CONFIRMATION FROM HARBAUGH. HAS HARBAUGH BEEN CONTACTED TO SEE IF GRIFFIN'S CLAIM IS TRUE? IF SO, WHAT HAS HE SAID ABOUT IT.

Never heard of such a thing, but even if it were true, it's not something that Harbaugh would care to comment on.  Seems like it would just cause more unnecessary distraction for him as he's well past that point in his career.

It's true that Harbaugh wanted both Griffin and Luck that year, which says something about his eye for talent at the QB position.  Harbaugh was complimentary in discussing both in local interviews last week and discussed recruiting them four years ago.  Interesting given the contrast in their recruiting profiles.

I've linked an article where Griffin discusses his recruitment and Harbaugh's vision of how both QB's could fit in.  None of this is surprising since Harbaugh knew he would need a response to QBs asking how both they and Luck could fit on the same team.  If your good enough you'll see the field no matter how good the other guy is would be the obvious response.

I think the point wygbe is making is that Harbaugh is not quoted in that article or other articles.

There's also the possibility that Harbaugh was recruiting him as an athlete, with an eye toward having him catch passes from Luck.

How about a two-QB shotgun backfield?  The defense wouldn't know who the ball was going to be snapped to.

Or a two-QB wildcat with one QB taking the handoff & running, with a toss back to the QB who is not running, to pass deep downfield?

Or....

Having used the 7 lineman set, and the three TE set, I'm sure Harbaugh could have come up with some imaginative plays with two Voldemort-quality QBs!
