Tempie Brown named as WBB GM

Similar to Rev's appointment with MBB - she'll retain her Associate HC d&r.

Work scope will include "..management of name, image and likeness (NIL) and revenue strategy, roster and scholarship optimization, and operational and infrastructure alignment. The role will work closely with campus leaders across Stanford departments...". This makes more sense to me - there was a JD shared a few days ago for someone else in the program whose d&r involve working more directly with the players and administrative marketing-related tasks, which kind of underwhelmed me.  Tempie's new job d&r sound much more strategic as relates to NIL and roster planning/management impacts which helps put my mind more at ease. I hope she has the business chops to succeed (or at least is a fast learner) and wish her all the best in helping make our program as competetive as reasonably possible in that regard.

Wasn't that the job already of Malia Bates handling NIL? What is her role exactly if not assisting with NIL?

My impression and guess from reading the GoStanford descriptions is that Bates oversees more "ground-level" NIL issues - helping players identify and build  sponsor relationships/deals and developing related marketing/outreach opportunities - while Tempie will oversee actual NIL allocations and assess impacts on actual recruiting and offer/roster management from a program level, strategic perspective.  Guessing Tempie (and Kate) will also be more involved with cultivating relationships with big $ donors. The difference between the job scopes seems clear to me, and I'm guessting this is probably consistent with how FB and MBB are operating.

Going into a NIL-related job seems like the modern equivalent "going into plastics" from The Graduate.

I consider this a very good development. I really like Tempie and to me it seems like she relates well with players and recruits. I think she’s open to different approaches but she’ll need help collaborating and influencing other departments. Hopefully she’ll have the help of our AD and other GMs

Insofar as having a dedicated GM and NIL coordinator help the coaches with recruiting (and free up mental bandwidth), this sounds great.  It also sounds like the program is recognizing the changing landscape and adapting (clearly the results show that we need some help).

This looks like it makes a lot of sense. I would specifically assign responsibility for player retention to her. In today’s basketball world that a part of recruiting . Individaulized focus, especially on your “must keeps” is critical to success.
