Another Donahoe blunder -

From the Information:
It’s no secret what’s ailing PayPal. The online payments innovator has become the AOL of the digital payments world, overtaken by faster-moving operations like Apple Pay. PayPal’s hiring of Chriss was an attempt to regain its mojo. When it named him to the job in September 2023, chair John Donahoe said he was “the perfect leader to take PayPal forward and accelerate the company’s growth opportunities.”
Today
In a statement, the board explained its replacement of Chriss by saying that after a “detailed evaluation” of PayPal’s position in the market, “the pace of change and execution was not in line with the board’s expectations.”
Enrique Lores, CEO of HP Inc., jumped from frying pan to the fire, taking over as CEO of PayPal. Lores has also been board chair of PayPal, taking over from Donahoe in 2024.

I will go to great lengths not to use PayPal.

My reaction was “there’s still a PayPal?” I thought it was in the same place as Napster and MySpace.

Is there something else in particular that very small businesses, particularly nonprofits, are using to accept credit card payments these days?

A lot seem to use Square, Venmo, Zelle, and probably some others I don’t bother with

Is there a particular reason that you try not to use PayPal? I’m ambivalent among all of the different pay apps, but if there’s a particular reason not to use one (whether user standpoint or corporate business practice), I’d like to know, thanks.

I favor Venmo. Clean, appropriate security, easy to use. PayPal's security measures are almost ridiculously onerous. They put me through multiple, needless week-long delays, which tells me that they've had security challenges, which tells me I don't want to use it.

Which is somewhat ironic because PayPal owns Venmo.

My theory is that they will reverse rebrand...the overall entity becomes Venmo.
