Need pictures of dudes putting on Stanford hats!

"Need pictures of dudes putting on Stanford hats" - Redrum - 02-06-2013

Ummm, no.  No, we don't.

Now, if the guy dropped his trousers to reveal  Univ. of South Carolina underwear  or , say,  his new Oregon Ducks tatoo...that would be interesting.  Or, at least not boring.

Nope.  The guy who puts on a hat in front of a gym full of people is almost always an over-entitled prima donna.  Stanford is better off not getting that kid.  Stanford needs players like Andrew Luck: guys with tons of talent, but also a willingness to be humble, work hard, and put the team first.  That kind of guy doesn't need a gym full of people anxiously waiting to see which hat he'll put on.

I'm no fan of the three hat news conference but there have been a few I enjoyed seeing show up to meet the media wearing Stanford gear.

Welcome to all the new members of the Stanford football team!  Can't wait to see you all working, getting better, and eventually contributing to the team.

Already looking ahead: it will be interesting to see what the coaching staff does with what seems to be a couple of extra scholarships that were left over after the 2013 class signed.  Do they go to redshirts?  Are they used to build a stronger 2014 class?  Either option might make sense.

Re: National signing day - stanforddad - 02-06-2013

I see Stanford has one offer outstanding as yet for ALbert Tai LB from Utah. No mention of him over the last few weeks. Not admitted or what?

IF Stanford want the player and he wants to put a hat on, so be it. It's the way of the recruiting world today. Let him have his fun.

Amen.

This board still wound way too tight/ly.

Re: National signing day - yvonne - 02-06-2013

I notice that the official NSD page now lists the signees' Twitter handles. Unless the rule has changed from last year, no tweeting them until they are in school.

I'm a little surprised by the reaction to the hats. Several guys donned Stanford hats last year as part of a signing ceremony.

Re: National signing day - Bruce Wang - 02-06-2013

I wish I could wear a Stanford hat.  I've got a big head (those of you that met me can confirm this).  When I put on a baseball hat, I look like Mr. Met. :(

Never offered.

Re: National signing day - fullmetal - 02-06-2013

Re: hats-- I think a lot of it has to do with how highly rated the recruit is.  Their school may have such a program set up for them--local tv stations filming their decisions, etc.  If they were blue-chippers, ESPN might come knocking for the footage.  I'm not opposed.  I like the publicity that it gives the Stanford football program.

To Hat or Not To Hat - Redrum - 02-06-2013

I don't think the hat stunt tells us much about the character of the hattee recruit.  If a kid wants to do it,  fine with me.

As I said in my original post...I don't think we need PICTURES of that rite of passage.  Why.  Because its BORING.  Been done.  By thousands of kids.  These kids have the right to their moment in the spotlight (such as it is).  They do NOT have the right to bore me.  That's why, if they simply must do something semi-theatrical,  do something new.  Tatoo on their abs.  A grill on their teeth spelling out the name of their school of choice.  Interpretive dance.  That'd be different.  I'd watch that.  Just,  pleeeeeeze, no pics/videos of hat ceremonies.

Who gave a down-arrow to this? Looks like someone's sense of humor is overdue for scheduled maintenance.

And I don't get the angst over hat trick press conferences. I'm not a fan of them but don't see the harm in it either. If anyone's to blame for those, it's the adults who create the hoopla around recruiting that make them viable (and to some degree or another, that includes all of us who follow recruiting).

Re: National signing day - oman - 02-06-2013

I got two thumbs down for just suggesting hats, so there are some tough hombres out there.  And I really am truly sorry, but today is a slow news day.

I think the response was less about the practice being boring and more about the hat people being prima donnas.

Yeah, it's old.  Sometimes old is fine.

That's how I feel about the Gatorade bath, but it's not going to change anytime soon.

Yes, they do. And you've got the right not to watch.[/quote]

What did signing day look like ten years ago?
