Dot is legendary.

Reviewing for younger folks, as RB he rambled far down the field late in the '82 BG game, to set up what many partisans still call the winning FG.

He was a very outgoing guy when we chatted at a lunch in SJ some years ago. His home was in the east bay, so he'd bought season tickets from an infamous school, somewhat further north of yours, continuing his passion for the sport.

Gamedays the joker wore a baseball cap constructed half and half from both  schools.  Heads spun.

Great perspective.

And you know - in Silicon Valley, failing is not that big a deal. In fact, it often is the key to learning, growing, and succeeding. We embrace failure and refuse to let it define or stop us from ultimately accomplishing our goals.

With all due respect, that's certainly not unique to the Silicon Valley.  A couple of my favorite quotes on the subject (from two people that probably never worked for either Cisco or Apple):

Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you... you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'Failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down. - Mary Pickford
