Stanford MBK: 67-78 loss at Oregon - fullmetal - 01-05-2012

As Chasson Randle's night goes, so goes the fate of the team.  Shooting 3-14 isn't going to do it, esp when that includes 1-6 from long distance :(

Dwight Powell had all of seven minutes of playing time.  Andrew Zimmerman started but only played 10 min total, racking up one assist as his only stat.

Stanford made 5-9 FTs; Oregon made 20-26 FTs.  Ugh.

Didn't see the game--what happened?

Re: Stanford MBK: 67-78 loss at Oregon - stanfan - 01-05-2012

I was at the game tonight.  Stanford had a bad night shooting, looked lethargic all night and got beat by a tougher team that played harder.

Re: Stanford MBK: 67-78 loss at Oregon - burger - 01-06-2012

I think we can almost kiss the Tourney goodbye.  A loss to Oregon plus two very mediocre showings against the LA schools does not bode well for the rest of the Pac-12 season.  Meanwhile, the Pac-12's profile got even worse last night--Arizona lost to UCLA, and Cal lost to Oregon State.  It's hard to see even one team that deserves an NCAA at-large bid right now.

Clearly this is not the Pac-12's most impressive men's hoops offering, and you may be right in your use of the term "deserves", burger, but by that standard, the NCAA tournament would never have 64 (or is it now 66?) teams!  The Pac-12 will obviously get a slot for this conference tournament winner (which could certainly be Stanford).  The question is, will it get 1, 2, or maybe 3 others?

The other factor that seems to be missing from your "last night's winners will determine how the rest of the season goes"-type analysis is the fact that 5 of the 6 teams who won were  playing at HOME (including Oregon, Oregon St. and UCLA).  That's clearly a big factor in Pac-12 men's basketball.

If Stanford can come close to "holding court" at Maples, and will a few (probably not even half) of it's remaining road games, I'm confident that they'll make the NCAA tournament, even if they don't win the conference tournament (though a first-round exit there could raise that bar a bit).

Re: Stanford MBK: 67-78 loss at Oregon - LuckE2Bhere - 01-06-2012

I concede that 4 Pac-12 teams in the tourney is probably a best-case scenario (that assumes someone like us wins the conference tournament, and the 3 teams that you noted above squeak in), Garvin.  Clearly we'll have at least one (by definition), however, and I was simply disputing burger's suggestion that last night's road losses mean that neither Stanford, Arizona, Washington or Cal will make the tournament.
