USC exodus continues - StannyBoy - 01-12-2012

so far they've lost WR Brice Butler, WR Kyle Prater, RB Amir Carlisle, CB TJ Bryant, S Pat Hall, and DT Armond Armstead has been expected to transfer for quite some time. All these guys were 4 and 5 star recruits coming out of high school.

They're also moving George Farmer back to WR so they're even thinner at RB now. They'll be quite good next season but after Barkley is gone they're going to have a hard time overcoming their depth problem. :-)

With U.S.C. facing scholarship limitations, this string of departures raises the question of whether U.S.C. is running off guys it doesn't want so that it can make room for new recruits. . . .

One of the kids sent out a tweet earlier this week indicating that the decision was not really his. I'll post it if I can track it down again.

yes, the usc message boards have been talking about how they are basically asking players who won't ever play to just leave to free up spots for freshman who will be there 4-5 years. Kiffin is planning ahead so they can survive their depth issues over the next few seasons.

Actually it's probably better for the kids.

I mean, let's face it, they went to U$C to play football, not for the great education they would get.

Better go some place where they are going to get on the field rather than ride the pines at U$C.

That probably explains a lot of these defections, but I'm not sure about all of them.  It looked to me like Carlisle, for one, could have found some playing time next year had he stuck around, based on his performance in spot duty this year.  Also, I recall hearing on the radio down here in LA that there was conflict with the Armstead family about how the USC coaches had handled some injuries, and that may have led both to Armand's transfer, and may have cost them a chance with Arik Armstead, a top lineman in this year's class.
