This is not encouraging - socalstanfan1 - 01-18-2012

Sounds like Kodi Whitfield has decided to give UCLA a look this weekend.

"#UCLA has recruited me the whole year and I like the new staff so Im going to visit there this weekend and see how it goes," Kodi Whitfield (Quoted from Twitter)

This time of year gives me anxiety attacks, at times.  I figured as a legacy, Whitfield would be fairly safe.  Unless, of course, there is some kind of admission issue that I'm not aware of.  Or maybe just last-minute anxiety about making the right choice.

You can't blame someone for wanting to check out other places to make sure the one they have chosen is the right one.  Nobody wants regrets.

He could spend time talking w/ Jordan Zumwalt - Redrum - 01-18-2012

and Malcolm Jones on how that switch from Stanford to UCLA has worked out for them.

Don't know about the academic/social aspects of Zumwalt, but you watch him play and can't help but feel he'd be a perfect fit on the football field.

Jones thought the running back depth chart was too crowded. Don't need a player who's wary of a deep depth chart.

Zumwalt comment wasn't about him... - Redrum - 01-18-2012

Was about choice of UCLA football and what a long, strange and disappointing trip it's been.

Re: This is not encouraging - socalstanfan1 - 01-18-2012

I remember seeing Zumwalt on the field as a true freshman, I believe due to injuries to UCLA, and I thought at the time that he was really impressive.  I was really surprised that he has kind of disappeared since.  His case, and Malcolm Jones's situation, seem to me to be prime examples of both the strengths and weaknesses of Neuheisel as a coach:  he could recruit like crazy, convincing people that the golden era for UCLA football was right around the corner, but his players never developed.  Honestly, for the sake of people like Zumwalt and Jones, and others who I just have not paid as much attention to since they never seemed destined for Stanford, I hope the new coaching staff can come in and help these kids develop.  Each of them, from what I read at least, seemed like decent young men, and you hate to see opportunities for them squandered due to bad coaching.

Re: This is not encouraging - terry - 01-18-2012

Malcolm Jones has been stuck behind Johnathan Franklin and Derrick Coleman at RB. Franklin and Coleman have received by far the bulk of the carries. Jones' stats:

2010: 55 attempts, 200 yards, 3.6 yards/att., 0 TD
2011: 25 attempts, 103 yards, 4.1 yards/att., 1 TD

Zumwalt has played more than Jones. He got regular playing time as a freshman, finishing 8th on the team in tackles. This year as a sophomore, Zumwalt was 3rd on the team in tackles. His stats:

2010: 32 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 sacks
2011: 60 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 0 sacks
