Closing Strong? - larkinforever - 01-22-2012

I've been hearing about some remaining recruits but finding it difficult to keep track of all of them.

Murphy, Peat, Garnett, Shittu, Hoffpauir and Bam Bradley all seem to be "on the board".

I think Garnett is probably going to Michigan, and I hear Hoffpauir and Bradley would flip (in Hoffpauir's case) or commit (in Bradley's case) to Stanford if they can clear admissions. I think we have a 50-50 or better chance with the other three -- Murphy being the highest probability, with Peat (with Nebraska and his bro as the biggest competition) and Shittu (now that his Cal lean seems to have disappeared) not far behind.

(1) Do I have the above correct?

(2) Are there other non-Stanford committed recruits still in the mix in a serious way?

One thing to remember, r.e. Peat:  While Todd Peat Jr. ended up at Nebraska, his first choice last year was Stanford, and he was pretty open about that fact.  He just never cleared admissions.  My impression (drawn from occassional comments I have read on the internet, but maybe this is just repeating rumors) is that the family is very education focused.  If that is the case, then obviously it improves our shot with Andrus, even if his brother is at Nebraska.

I like our chances very much with Murphy and Shittu.  Even if we do lose out on Garnett, IF we could add Murphy AND Peat, this would have to go down as, on paper, the best OL class of the year:

Murphy--5*
Peat--5*
Shuler--4*
Davidson--4*
Fanaika--3/4*
Caspers--3*

Colby Cyburt, now a UCLA commit, said the Stanford coaches were looking to add 5 or 6 OL prospects this year, so the above group would do the trick.  Sub Garnett for Peat, whatever.  That is a great group.  Even if we get Murphy and lose out on both Garnett and Peat, it would still look pretty darn good.

Re: Closing Strong? - larkinforever - 01-22-2012

Interesting re: Todd -- as this is my first year really following recruiting, I had no idea that Todd was so interested in Stanford.

Agree on the OL class. I'd take a guess that Barry J. Sanders is getting pretty excited about his once and future classmates/teammates on The Farm.
