Kevin Gemmell GETS it! - yvonne - 02-03-2012

Kevin Gemmell here talks about what the new class means to Stanford's current players.

Totally agree regarding Gemmell, Yvonne.  I hope ESPN gives us at least another year with his blog although they didn't necessarily give us a great ranking with our recruiting class versus Rivals and Scout.  We run a very different program and sometimes I think they hold that against us.    That being said, my son and I will always remember our 6:30am trip to The Oval for College Game Day this year.  Perhaps we get that again for the USC game?!

My guess is when the umpeenth article asking "I Daresay These Stanford Cardinals Not Be Flashes In The Pan After All, Chum!", the players thought, "What about us?" Nothing like a little perceived disrespect to motivate.

I have no inside information, but let it be noted that John Kosner, the general manager of digital and print media at ESPN, is a 1982 graduate of Stanford.

Some decisions are very parochial.

(Hey, for all I know he is 82lsju.)

Robbie, I hope the two of you meet often at area alumni functions :)

This made me laugh

Quote:Lock up your four and five star guys, because if they're out there, and they meet Stanford requirements, we're gonna find them!

It reminded me of this classic  :D

I am not him.

I was mostly referring to Kevin's overall tone, that this class makes to the older guys, that they should work hard and step up their game because the best man gets the job. That's what this Stanford program is all about. "If you're not getting better, you're getting worse."

As for the guys getting angry about all the people who are saying the team will be worse without luck, well, the younger guys certainly have noticed:

On the other hand, I'm remembering that tearing up the turf in some of those high school games seems so different from, say, BCS level football that some of these new kids, supermen as they appear, might prove to need to take the lessons from the older guys.  Those few extra pushups last year's guys will do to match this new class are also backed up by some very serious experience that the new guys can't even imagine yet.

On the contrary, I seem to remember our "BCS level" turf tearing up very much like a high-school field last year...
