Lacob and Linsanity - pincemob - 03-10-2012

Interesting quote in the Chron today.  Joe Lacob calls the Stanford coaches "stupid" for not recruiting Jeremy Lin because he and a bunch of boosters were pushing Lin, and Lin was right across the street.  Lacob has done and said some dumb things, but this is probably the dumbest.  Whatever Stanford lost by not signing Jeremy Lin, the Warriors lost a million times more by cutting him in their pointless trade maneuvering.  If Lin goes to Stanford, perhaps we win a few more games and have another NBA alum to be proud of.  Who knows.  We do know that by cutting Lin, the Warriors missed out on one of the biggest sports phenomena in years.  Who is stupid, really.  The guys who passed on Jeremy Lin in high school or the guy who spent $450 million for a $300 million team and then cut Jeremy Lin.

Re: Lacob and Linsanity - fullmetal - 03-10-2012

Lin probably wouldn't have been the player he is today without the immediate playing time he got at Harvard.  Here's betting he would have just languished behind Mitch Johnson on the bench at Stanford.  Water under the bridge now...Lin needs to find a way to make the NYK offense and defense work.

It seems to me any owner who buys a perpetually failing franchise and doesn't immediately clear house in the executive suite (and installs his just-out-of-college son in an important role, no less) has basically zero standing to call anyone else's judgment in sports lacking. Enjoy failure, Joe!
