Humiliations galore - Redrum - 08-17-2010

Kal is getting the setup for a great season.   They choke when expectations are high,  seem to thrive when they have no preseason pressure.   This is the season when expectations are really depressed.   Perfect for the Bares potential humiliation for Stanford which is not being blessed with low expectations at all.

BUT, a humiliation particularly bitter for the Bares potentially awaits if they fail to win the Pac-10 championship.  How humiliating?   Well,  I\'ll let the Merc\'s Jon Wilner describe it:

"If the Rose Bowl loses either the Pac-10 or Big Ten winner to the national championship game, and if the [Boise State] Broncos are the highest-ranked team from a non-automatic-qualifier conference -- they would have to be in the top 12 but not in the title game -- then the Rose Bowl would be obligated to take them

Which means Boise St. would have 1) made the transition from a community college to a four-year school  2) Played nationally ranked teams and beaten them in bowl games  3) Played in the Rose Bowl even though not a member of the Pac-10  ....before the 59ers made it back from their last Rose Bowl appearance.
