Fantastic competition and the right time to post the highest score all season. The gymnastics community is buzzing with surprise, as Stanford beat heavily favored Oklahoma and higher ranked Nebraska (as well as LSU) to qualify. UCLA and Utah also qualified in what looks like a Super Six Pac-12 versus SEC showdown. This team will add valuable points to the Capital One Cup.Â

I had gotten so used to seeing it called the Anyone But Stanford Cup that I thought our neat board software added it to its autocorrect algorithm.

The placement will also give Stanford points in the Directors Cup, which is almost 20 years old, recognized by collegiate directors across the country, includes more sports and not specifically designed to prevent a specific school from winning.

Congrats to the Gymnastics team -Â that's great news - delivering when it counts and it is all on the line. And congrats to the Pac-12 with 3 and maybe 4 teams in the Super Six.

There will "only" be 3 Pac-12 teams in the final six. Oregon State failed to push into the finals.
Stanford's great Friday is good news for the program. The NACDA Directors' Cup is already secure, but more points are always welcome. Stanford is taking that thing home with or without the top 6 finishes from the gymnastics squads.
The most troubling news item from this thread is that UCLA seems ready to claim another NCAA team title. Don't really want to cheer against UCLA if it means a title for the SEC, but....

Clearly the Directors' Cup is safe so I mentioned that other one. However, I don't want discussion about the cups to overshadow the fantastic performance of our overachieving gymnastics team. They are also one of the most artistic teams at nationals (i.e. great lines, toe point, extension, exquisite choreography).
Gymnastics could always use more fans, so if you are looking for something to do tomorrow at 1pm Pacific and have access to Espn.3 through your cable provider, take a look at the live coverage:

UCLA "only" finished 3rd! 8)
