Play on a 90 yard field, as the 59ers did for their spring game. (

Maybe that's why the Memorial reconstruction was so expensive--they were shortening the field.

Kyle Bonagura wouldn't be surprised if it went either way? (read the linked Twitter convo above) He's really working hard to curry favor with that kal fan base. Stanford's run game alone should give it a big head start over kal.

He's not the only one. Ted Miller's been really tooting kal's horn.
The 59ers play their three toughest games at home. The quarterback has another year under his belt. Yesterday at their spring game, his completion percentage was not good, but he didn't throw any interceptions. Their main RB hit his stride at the end of the season. They have a running back coming off injury, and he's supposed to be good. We'll have an excellent run game, but teams will be able to stack the box if we don't have a QB who can play at least moderately well. Nunes had an abysmal completion percentage in the spring game, and Nottingham threw an interception and no touchdowns. Although our kicker made a 49 yard field goal in the spring game, he also missed an extra point. Our team could end up being like kal's was last year.
On the positive side is our depth at running back, and our defense. Ted's high on kal's defense, but I'm not so sold. Their OL, which wasn't great before, has some holes to fill and aren't particularly deeper or stronger with their new recruits. They lose three offensive lineman, including their best OL, Mitchell Schwartz, their two starting defensive ends, and their best linebacker, Mychal Kendricks. I think their defense will continue to be middle of the pack, but their offense will be better.

I don't understand why people find this stacking-the-box meme to be so persuasive. It would be hard for teams to do it more often than they were last year.
The biggest dropoff will be on third down.

Well, if you factor that in, no better than 6-6 and possibly 5-7.

OL at 3.5 should be ringing alarm bells. Weak OLs magnify any offensive deficiency...
