Re: Sara James - Griffins78 - 05-01-2012

Thanks for the link Gavin. Nice story that reveals a lot about Sara and Stanford and some of the reasons we follow and support the Stanford WBBall team. IIRC Sara was rated one of the top 15 or so players in the country coming our of HS. We met her and her mom in San Anotnio at the Final Four where I think she played in the HS All-American game.

She has not played near as much or as effectively as we or she thought she would but from everything Ive seen she continues to throw herself completely into the Program and the team. She works really hard - Tara always comments that Sara is the first one on the court and whenever she comes in and hears a basketball she knows it's Sara. But I always wondered how she must feel.

The program from the WBBall Banquet revealed a lot too. Each of the players writes their thoughts/message for each of the seniors and they are printed in the program. What Sara wrote really stood out to me and showed a tremendous amount of genuine love and passion for the team and her teammates. She is all in - totally committed to helping the team and each of her teammates become better and to have joy along the way.

And she's doing it while being a human bio major too.

Here's to Sara James or Sejjie or just Sej as her teammates call her for being one of the reasons we love and support Stanford WBBall.

Re: Sara James - 81alum - 05-02-2012

I do think there is an opportunity for Sara James to greatly expand her playtime over the next two years.  Next year's entering class (AY 2012-13) includes no guards and it is unrealistic to hope that all five of our present guards will stay injury-free for the rest of their days.  We don't even know for sure whether Jasmine and Alex will make it back to their pre-injury condition.

Toni and Amber certainly have earned starting spots at the beginning of next season, but we are going to need as many of our 5 guards to be productive as possible.  There has even been talk of running formations with 3 guards, although I think that talk will die down if Beebe turns out to be as good as many hope.  Still, I would be surprised if Sara does not get significantly more playing time in the Fall as Tara experiments with getting the team set.
