DB Recruiting -
OutsiderFan - 05-18-2012
Just taking a peek at DB prospects, it seems as though there is some good potential for the 2013 Stanford class. The 5/4 star prospects abound, which usually isn't the case for Stanford at any position, but most certainly not DB. From my recollection, usually there might be one elite prospect at Safety or Corner and Stanford misses on them, until the last two classes with Lyons and Carter. This year there seems to be more elite DB prospects considering Stanford than ever.
Safeties
Su'a Cravens
Leon McQuay III
Kameron Miles
CBs
Vernon Hargreaves III
Will Likely
Chris Hawkins
Johnny Johnson
You guys have any feeling for who might be farm-bound? Recently Stanford has nabbed guys nobody suspected would chose them, like Jordan Watkins and Noor Davis. Any "surprises" like that in the offing?

Feel good about Kameron Miles. I suppose we've got a shot at Hargreaves and Likely, but I'd be surprised and pleased to get either.

It's always possible that he will change his mind, but Hawkins is currently committed to USC. I'll echo the comment above that it seems Miles is our best shot here. Cravens is supposed to commit soon, and USC seems the heavy favorite right now, at least according to the rumor mills around recruiting websites, though he has been very quiet about the whole recruiting process.
Encouraged to see that Hargeaves is planning a visit. Maybe we can have him chat with another great DB our of Florida, Wayne Lyons.

Cravens to USC I'd say. Doubt he has the test score.
Don't think McQuay has the test score.
Feel good about Miles' interest and test score/grades.
Great if we can get Hargreaves on campus. Keep in mind his dad coaches at USF so could be hard to sway.
Can't see Hawkins dropping SC. Not with his helicopter dad in the picture.
Johnson has been pretty quiet on Stanford and not sure about his test score.
Likely was FL jr player of the year. Hopefully he visits.
We're also recruiting Austin Logan, Tajuan Thomas, Ty Slanina, and another DB in LA. I forget his name.

Both of these guys are receivers. With Slanina's moves in space, probably a waste to line him up at safety.

True but if we're lighter at Safety and CB then guys can always get moved. Many schools play guys out of position due to lack of depth, eg. USC, FL, etc.

The other Louisiana DB is Xavier Woods.

we offered a couple of other CBs that have committed elsewhere (Cam Burrows tOSU, JJ Green UGA). another CB we are looking at is Elijah Mitchell. 10.58 100M -- not too bad.

Can't find any offers for Harrell, but the tweet is from former Bootleg, present Stanford Rivals writer Andy D so it can be believed. BTW we do have a TE walk on from Canada who could play at some point.Â

He's in this class, not next.

No Scout info.

Andy Druk turned up a couple of new walk-ons, including Chris Harrell. interesting video on Harrell (at 6'4" and 220 or so) coming in 3rd in a 400m race. Alex Frkovic is the other walk-on TE from Canada.

Miles to Tennessee per Twitter.
Re: DB Recruiting -
OutsiderFan - 05-22-2012
Does Miles have the profile to get admitted? That's always the first question that comes to mind when Stanford is a finalist and isn't the school picked.
Re: DB Recruiting -
washingtonismoney - 05-22-2012
I believe I've heard 3.8 reported GPA and 1100 two-part? Not sure if accurate, of course. Miles's coach was a former UT player, which may have played a factor.
Anyway, he'll still be taking officials, so this might just be one of those maneuvers where you reserve a spot with one class but test the admissions waters.

Re: DB Recruiting -

man I still can't believe all the worrying over recruiting. I keep finding 3 and 4 star recruits with very high GPAs, like straight A's. There is plenty of talent left and I expect Shaw to pull in a solid class of 12-15 guys.

I've reread this whole thread and didn't see anyone worry about recruiting.Â
