Well, thanks to Harbaugh, here\'s ALL the news - Redrum - 08-23-2010

The new sports blackout certainly has changed the preseason for us.  We used to get a decent stream of reports from observers,  but this year all we hear is the sound of pads, yelling and whistles from behind the the high fences of The Fort.

But,  we make do.  Here\'s all the news we can muster:

Apparently there have been two more commits,  both of whom have requested and received anonymity.  This happened more than two weeks ago.

Other than that, it\'s dribs and drabs.   Loukas now full time at #2 QB.  Amanam=good.  No major injuries-- that have been reported but speculation rampant with more position switches.   Pretty pathetic lot of tidbits.  Biggest news is actually UCLA\'s  OL has been falling in practice like it was the St. Valentine\'s Day Massacre.    We get them at their place second game of the season.   Not feeling sorry for them.

And then, there\'s this;

Why the anonymity? Worried about admissions?

I wonder if announcing a commitment these days gets you even *more* unwanted attention from other schools\' recruiters.

Clearly in response to Redrum\'s lament this morning, JH finally eased the news blackout a bit.

Here\'s the news:

* Richard Sherman is injured. No word on what the injury is, or how long he\'ll be out.

* Corey Gatewood is now a WR. He asked to be moved, apparently because he was being edged out at CB.

* That leaves Johnson Bademosi and freshman Barry Browning taking first-team snaps at CB.

* LB Cleophus Robinson\'s college career is over before it started.

* Derek Hall appears to have a slight edge over James McGillicuddy at right tackle.

I have to say that I\'m baffled by the Gatewood position change. Even if Sherman were healthy, we would seem to have less experience and depth at CB than at WR. I don\'t get it.

It is baffling, isn\'t it? Perhaps it\'s a good sign--if Gatewood (who vaguely approached competent at times) thought the alternatives at CB were better, well, that speaks well to the depth and quality of CBs (as in, we may have a pair of competent CBs next year, which would result in angels weeping and heavenly choirs exulting.)

When we were down to something like our ninth-string running back during Jim Harbaugh\'s first season, Gatewood was drafted into the position and showed real talent -- he averaged over six yards a carry, I believe. But he fumbled quite a bit, too.

Richard Sherman had been keeping up a regular string of tweets from practice -- until Aug. 17, when they abruptly ceased. Last one: "Oh Camp how I love thee. :-) another practice....yes!"

What happened with Robinson? :(

Medical retirement - Redrum - 08-23-2010

Cleo Robinson reportedly had pre-existing shoulder injuries and felt he couldn\'t play at the college level  per  Harbaugh.  I wonder what the story is behind that process.  Comes to camp but coaches can tell he\'s in no shape to play?   Gets a taste of camp and realizes his shoulders won\'t hold up?  Is he already considered on the team and eligible for a medical retirement?  Just a bad idea from the git-go?    Bad news for the kid but it frees up a scholarship slot for next year.

Gaffney is hurt, too.  When asked when Gaffney would return,  Harbaugh answered "When he gets well."
Attaboy,Jimbo.  The Zen man\'s man wiseass.

Hope Robinson\'s situation works out well.  He\'ll have the Stanford degree at least.
