I remember that Romney's picture in the Froshbook was very cute. However, noticing the guy and the last name was as close as I got to meeting him freshman year. I vaguely remember wondering what had happened to him in subsequent years when he never showed up on the Axe Comm or fraternities or wherever it was that the beautiful people hung out. Found out much later that he'd gone on a mission and then transferred.

I'm not sure I was aware enough of the Mormon church to know about missions, never mind to know that Mitt was a Mormon. I do remember thinking that Mitt was an outlandish name. (I was a Midwesterner, frevvinsake.) Of course, then Young Boozer III showed up my junior year, and nothing was ever really outlandish after that.

To name somebody that once is bad. To give four people that name shows that a family believes inflicting pain builds character (or something).

Yes, Young Boozer is my Real Name

I remember thinking along those lines when my then-spouse was in the army and we were living in the Rheinland Pfalz in West Germany. We were asked to sponsor an officer couple arriving at our kaserne. The husband's name was Philip Washington Fairey III. Their then-16-month-old son was, you guessed it, Philip Washington Fairey IV. I gave Phil IV's mother some joshing grief about it, and she said, "Do you have ANY idea how difficult it is to find a first name that sounds good with a last name like Fairey?" She decided the least they could do was make Philip III's parents happy...

Dunno if the Boozers had the same problem, but it's at least a possibility.

I was acquainted with Mr. Boozer at Stanford when we were both young boozers. He was (and probably is) a fanatical Alabama fan. I don't know if he's still a trustee but if you're at a meeting,  I wouldn't badmouth Bear Bryant...or even houndstooth haberdashery....in his presence.

Apropos of very little, I'm reminded of one of my favorite (very old and not really relevant any more, alas) old jokes: When Bear Bryant died, his widow decided she wanted to get as far away from college football as she could -- so she moved to... Corvallis.
