OT: Prometheus - washingtonismoney - 06-10-2012

Gorgeous visually, but don't watch unless you really enjoy plot holes. Like, gigantic ones. H.UGE, even.

I know there are some Alien fans on here, and I felt the warning was appropriate.

That's OK - Redrum - 06-11-2012

Almost all of us have seen athletes whose early days made them phenoms but whose latter career days were more about sentimentality and remembrance of what they were in their prime.  Why should (Sir) Ridley Scott be immune?  It's harder to make a movie where the plot is circumscribed by the blockbuster plot(s) that preceded it than it is to break new ground.  Just thank the gods that no sequel to Blade Runner was made,  although I'd bet my life savings that more than a couple meetings took place about how one could be made.

I believe one is being made. Time to curse the gods?

If so, it's the gods' punishment - Redrum - 06-11-2012

for humans allowing Adam Sandler to make movie after movie after movie.

A couple of blog links I saw (SPOILER ALERTS) this morning that might be of interest:

Prometheus: Wholly Engaging and Utterly Without Redeeming Value.

SMS dialogue between Noomi Rapace and an Engineer.

Luckily for garvin & us, our bench is pretty deep - Redrum - 06-11-2012

"I don't go see Alien movies unless they have a Stanford girl in them."

I'll call down to the bullpen and tell them to get Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Connelly warming up.

Re: OT: Prometheus - dabigv13 - 06-11-2012

Alien is one of my favorite movies of all times, just waiting for my chance to see Prometheus in IMAX 3D. Ridley Scott has not made many bad movies, and I suspect I will thoroughly enjoy this one.

And yes there is a Blade Runner sequel in the making...another one of my favorite movies and though I think the Blade Runner universe is a great one, I don't think it's quite as ripe for another movie as Alien. I'd still see it though.

Now Total Recall is a scifi movie that certainly does NOT need a remake. Arnold cannot be replaced by Colin Farrell.

Re: OT: Prometheus - Farm93 - 06-11-2012

With Arnold in Total Recall it was believable that he could take on 4 or 5 guys at once without getting hurt.  It was believable that the whole thing could be a dream OR it could be reality.

If Colin Farrell is taking on 4 or 5 guys at once it will seem unbelievable that it could be real because there is no way that he would fight off more than 1 person at a time.  So that inability on my part to suspend disbelief on the idea it could be real will ruin the movie, at least for me.

Could actually see the remake being worthwhile. Arnold's was a campy version; it seems like they're going for a more serious vibe with this version.

EDIT: plus that, there's his DVD commentary. Really, just hysterical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncR2_pnzngM
