Interesting news on another WR recruit - socalstanfan1 - 06-20-2012

Jordan Cunningham, long rumored to be leaning toward Miami, has Stanford listed as a co-leader with the Canes, and currently above Notre Dame, Alabama, and Florida State. (Ignore the headline, read the text) He'll visit this weekend.  Sounds intriguing.

I've also heard that Peter Kalambayi may be out for the weekend.  Does anyone know who else might be visiting?

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - washingtonismoney - 06-20-2012

While I'm sure it's not everyone, but here are some of the more interesting guys:
Cameron Hunt, former teammate of Kodi Whitfield and four-star-to-some corner, visited but won't camp.
Greg Taboada, TE/OLB from Georgia with a very good offer list, is camping
Jon Wisnieski, a top-twenty three-star TE from Iowa, is camping.

There's also a bunch of 2014 players, including Paly High's Keller Chryst at QB.

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - socalstanfan1 - 06-20-2012

Hadn't heard about Cameron Hunt.  It would definitely be good to pick up another high quality DB.  Can't have too many of them in the Pac-12

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - washingtonismoney - 06-20-2012

Wrong name--Cameron Walker is the DB. Cameron Hunt is an OL who's also visiting.

Kalambayi and Doug Randolph will be there.  Ryan Burns is there and impressed Andy Drukarev.

Another name appearing on twitter: 3-star tight end Grant Martinez

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - StannyBoy - 06-21-2012

Kalambayi has been there for a day or 2, he tweets with Randolph and Shittu. I love that Shittu is making friends with all the 2013 recruits. Guys go to school where they fit in for the most part so that will be brobdingnagian.

??

Quote:Stanford is high on Cunningham’s list for a lot of the same reasons Miami is.

“That is one of the main reasons they are on my list because of the academics that they have,” Cunningham said of Stanford. “They are also a good football program and I plan on going out to see it.”

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - CompSci87 - 06-21-2012

Maybe one out of two reasons counts as "a lot" for this interviewer.

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - OutsiderFan - 06-21-2012

I'm assuming Stanford is only taking two WRs this class.  Is this a safe assumption?

Looks like Jordan Cunningham and Devon Allen might be the top targets for the remaining spot?

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - socalstanfan1 - 06-21-2012

Taijuan Thomas is also attending, apparently, per his twitter page.  Thomas is generally listed as a WR, but he has that kind of frame that could go WR or DB or RB.  I wonder if one way of approaching this small class is to fill in spots with people who are just excellent athletes, then find the best spot for them to help the team.  Though Cunningham and/or Allen would be pretty nice pickups.  Aside: Allen is apparently a fantastic hurdler on the track team.  Could help Stanford in two sports.

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - StannyBoy - 06-21-2012

I don't think Devon Allen is considering us at this point. I haven't heard anything about him and Stanford and he's a short plane flight away. From lurking on the ND boards they are convinced he's going to Ohio State since his dad went there and he grew up a fan of OSU.

I think Taijuan Thomas will be tried at CB and WR. And Cunningham flew out from FL so we have a shot to land him too.

There's also a few TEs visiting so some of them could walk away with offers. I don't think Shaw wants to put all of his marbles in the Hunter Henry basket.

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - RickyRicardo - 06-23-2012

Any notable names from this weekends camp?

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - Hank 91 - 06-24-2012

Taijuan Thomas did attend, and apparently had a good time. A recent tweet: "Stanford was 39 times better than I expected."

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - stan01 - 06-25-2012

You've probably already seen this from Andy Drukarev, but in case you haven't:

"2013 TE Eric Cotton, 2014 TE Dalton Schultz, + 2013 WR Jordan Cunningham, + 2013 QB Ryan Burns also among the standouts."

The 2012 class moved into their dorms and are enrolled in summer school.

I like his precision.  This bodes well thus far :p

And, Finally, a TE Commit - socalstanfan1 - 06-26-2012

The aforementinoed Eric Cotton commits.  He has been totally under-the-radar up until recently, but apparently everywhere he showed up and performed for coaches he was offered a scholarship.  I'm sure he will have his star-rating soon enough.  Now if we can land Hunter Henry or another of the notable TEs we can breath a bit easier about that spot.

The nagging question w/ Cotton - Redrum - 06-26-2012

His offer list is decent for a 2-star stuck up in an fairly isolated part of the football landscape.
Air Force, Army, Idaho, Harvard, Missouri, Wash. St..    The interesting question:  Why Boise St.,  right in his own backyard (or, he in theirs) didn't offer.    Presumably they'd have lots of opportunities to see him in live games.  Might be that they are done at TE, having previously taken a 3-star they liked better.  Or....?    Anyway,  he committed to us,  has 4.0 and decent test scores,  sports  Coby Fleener height and Mike Leach liked him.  So our gain is the Big East's loss...or is it Conf. USA?    Boise is switching and trading up so fast, it's hard to keep track.

Re: Interesting news on another WR recruit - yvonne - 06-26-2012

Oh boy, first it was that our Texas guys, including the No. 1 overall pick, were Texas rejects; now it's being insinuated that a kid coming from Idaho with Army, Air Force, and Harvard on his list is picking us because Boise State didn't want him. Yeah, that's it. It couldn't possibly be anything else, say on his end. smh

This kid will move up in the rankings.  I doubt too many current 4 or 5 star TEs could make that catch in the first highlight.  He's got great size, hands, runs well, and has impressive body control.  He was converted from OT to WR because he catches and runs so well, but he hasn't forgotten how to block.

As for why Boise didn't offer, who knows.  Frankly, after watching Cotton's highlight tape I wouldn't let it, or the fact he only has 2 stars bother me in the slightest.  If he doesn't get moved up and he gets admitted, I could easily see DS on signing day saying "this kid shows why the rankings are meaningless.  He is better than many of the 4 stars we looked at.". Or something similar.
