2012 pre-season thread -
washingtonismoney - 08-02-2012
Thought we could use a place to drop the preseason media stuff, to keep there from being a general rush on threads.
Here's a
Stanford Daily article on Kevin Anderson.

A well-done piece.

Stanford football to use iPad playbooks:

A lot of possibilities for more effective coaching and demonstration here, I think. And it's not bad as a recruiting tool either.

Pair of good articles in SF Chronicle today:
One on Barry J Sanders:

One more of a notebook article:

One cringe moment was when Shaw called the playbook "unhackable." Nothing is unhackable, and saying something is, is just inviting hackers to try.

Sounds very impressed with Dallas Lloyd. Too bad he's going to Montana.
Lloyd will regret the move - Redrum - 08-06-2012
He'll be buried deep in the Montana depth chart and never see the field.

Here's a free piece (CardinalReport) with offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren talking about the different possibilities he sees for the line this fall. Good stuff.

Has that been confirmed? His father denied the rumor on August 2:

Some tweets from David Lombardi â@davidmlombardi
"Great stuff from coach Shaw at Stanford practice.. FR Aziz Shittu playing well on D-Line. Expected to play along w/ Jordan Watkins (FR)..."
"... Ty Montgomery was the most impressive player at practice. Long post TD catch. Has added even more muscle (4-5% body fat), ran a 4.4..."
"..Andrus Peat, Kyle Murphy, Josh Garnett all size-ready to start. Shaw: "Possible, not likely" that a true FR starts on Stanford's O-Line..."
"Shaw said RS FR Brendon Austin a good bet to see a lot of action at LT. 100% healthy now. Will know more about line once pads come on Wed... "
"Levine Toilolo also had an excellent day at practice. Third TE "up in air:" Dudchock, Jemari Roberts, Kaumatule (def. convert) all mentioned"
"Speaking of Kaumatule, he was catching extra passes from Brett Nottingham after practice"
"Then there's CB Wayne Lyons, who Shaw said is "100% healthy and looking awesome." Back in football shape, explosive"
"And my eye observations: Stanford studs all look even bigger than last year. Chase Thomas at least 10 lbs of muscle, Murphy brobdingnagian too"
"Along those notes, will know more about which O-Linemen and WR stand out about 8-9 practices in. Pads/playbook have to be established first"
"and of course, the QB question: both Nottingham and Nunes look good right now, Shaw says that's a relief since only about 10% of playbook in"
From Kyle Bonagura â@KyleBonagura
"For any @StanfordFball fans wanting to catch a practice during camp, the open practice will be Aug 19. #Stanford"
"First impression at #Stanford camp: The true freshmen don't look like freshmen."

Fitzgerald still lists Kyle Olugbode as one of the potential safeties, but Kyle is injured:
Andy Drukarev â@andydruk
"I was able to confirm today that Stanford safety Kyle Olugbode will miss the first part of the season with a hand/wrist injury."

I think that was tongue-in-cheek. It's hard to tell on a message board sometimes, though.

Maybe I fell asleep during this short video but Hart didn't talk as much about H. Anderson as I anticipated. I also had the impression that there was some message that came through about Stephens... Hart said that he thinks he's going in the right direction. Makes it sound as though he's talking about a delinquent. (Of course generally people try to make more out of off-season coach comments than actually can be done.)
"Going in the right direction" - Redrum - 08-07-2012
Always a plus in a defensive lineman.Â
Aside: I wonder if that's the pace and level of voice that Hart uses when coaching, or just an interview thing. If I were playing for him I'd always be saying "What?" "Say that again coach". Â

Well, I just think the story is that in the past the coaches haven't been completely satisfied with his effort. (see the Mercury-News story on Stephens from December...which is no longer available. Good job with that there.)
Anyway, here's Bloomgren on the OL:
