While it's amusing to take a jab like that at U.SC, the fact that two students were killed in April near campus makes this a tad less sensitive.

But I love Kiffin's response

I'm sure he never mentioned to a common recruit that at Stanford, the players have to actually attend class and make grades. I'm sure he's never told a recruit that their admission to Stanford isn't guaranteed, so you don't want to miss the T.rojan gravy train. And he's never been involved in any underhanded recruiting activities like calling up all of the Tennessee recruits the moment he switched jobs and told them not to sign their LOIs...

Mora's comments were dumb....just the sort of thing a little brother program would say. And I'm sure that's how it's playing in LA. Have to wait til we see the product on the field but don't think UCLA is gonna be returning to prominence any time soon.

Anyway, the Mora honeymoon might finally be ending, which really raises the question as to why there was a Mora honeymoon to begin with? Somehow Mora managed to convince large numbers of the media that he was a really crackerjack hire, when in fact there's abundant evidence that he's a mediocre coach and a dick to boot.

At least Neuheisel could recruit well--Mora's staff can't even do that terribly well. Mora is in danger of a demographics crunch wherein he cannot replace the highly-touted players of Neuheisel's with highly-touted players of his own. If there's any consolation, it's that the Pac-12 South looks a lot friendlier than the Pac-12 North.

(EDIT: Note: I know some of us like the schadenfreude/lunacy of other fanbases. Admit it--we read ND Nation with a chuckle. To me, however, Bruins Nation is the unquestioned top in lunacy at the moment. They're demanding 9 wins and a win over SC at the moment, otherwise Mora is A FAILURE.)

I think it's telling that USC went for 50 against UCLA, had Barkley in when the game was well in hand, and celebrates this while it complained about our going for two in the what's your deal game.

The howls from T.rojan supporters rang hollow after that 2009 bloodbath. Somehow all of the U.SC blowouts of the past 10 years were conducted with honor and respect for the opponent. They couldn't help scoring those last minute TDs that came on deep bomb passes. Pete Carroll would NEVER rub an opponents nose in it through gamesmanship. But Harbaugh going for two was beyond the pale.

Mora's comment was clearly classless. But Kiffin's feigned moral high ground amusing.

Mora should not gloat about the lack of murders near UCLA.  It does come off as insensitive.  But what I found the most amusing in this ordeal was Kiffin's response:

"And we have stats to show the facts, not opinions," Kiffin said. "It's very expensive to go here and a lot of people send their kids here from around the world."

I seriously doubt he has any facts that show the area around USC is safe.  Does he bike to work from a nearby neighborhood?  Let me guess....no.  And what does the cost of the school have to do with anything?  Or the number of international students?  He might as well have said his QB gives him Christmas ornaments... that would have been just as relevant.

I'm not sure if Kiffin knows what unsafe is...he doesn't strike me as the type with street smarts.  Watch as he leaps into a forest of journalists' microphones with nary a thought...
