WBB: Khaliyah Lili Thompson commits for 2013 -
81alum - 08-12-2012
C&R reported this a couple of weeks ago but I am just getting caught up. Khaliyah Lili Thompson has committed for 2013.
The article in the Dallas newspaper can be found here:

C&R also have a link to her highlight reel put together by her dad:

Lili is a 5'8" guard. C&R report that she went largely unnoticed on the recruiting scene due to a summer injury. Hoopgurlz has her as a 3star rated at 86. "Premier Basketball" calls her "One of the top prospects in the class of 2013 and fun to watch play."

She will join Karlie Samuelson, also a guard, as the second 2013 commit.Â
I am curious what the rest of you think about our WBB recruiting of late. It looks like we are going to be very strong on guards for a long time to come. It also appears that we take the opportunity to recruit players who were injured in high school and thus lost some of their luster (Ally Beebe, too.) Perhaps we get very high caliber athletes that others overlooked because of this--but there also must be some sort of risk.
For those of you with a more practiced eye in sizing up talent, how do the classes of 2012 (Beebe, Picknell, Lakhian) and 2013 (K. Samuelson, Thompson) look to you? I get the impression that the team is going to have to get a lot more points out of its guards in the long run, and Beebe is looking more and more like she is intended to be a building block for the team in the post.Â

According to BobK's posts over on the Bootie, we are probably still hoping to add one or two premier posts for the 2013 class.

That agrees with Hoopgurlz that has Oderah Chidom "under consideration" by Stanford for 2013. She is a 6'3" post from Bishop O'Dowd who is considering Stanford, C.al and Duke. Hoopgurlz ranks her 25 at 4 stars.

Thompson was unknown to me but ranked # 119 on one site. Karlie samuelson may have been UConn's top recruit. Very underranked and I've seen her play 10 times or so. Love her.
Beebe was a top 10 player. Accepted and committed then tore her ACLso 81 not injured when she committed.Â
We are recruiting hard two top 15 players although both have been ranked much higher. A post and a 3-4. I am hopeful. Neither Chidom although we may well still be recruiting her.Â
Beebe can be a beast. time will tell. Picknell more of a project. But 6-5 helps. :).Â
The 3rd is probably on scholie because we have two openings. Boothe left early and we saved one from last season.
Green and Camp both injured last year but both very quick.

Thank you BobK, I appreciate the detailed information. How many scholarships do we have for 2013? Currently we have 14 players on the roster, leaving one free. Joslyn graduates making two. Ruef is a redshirt junior, meaning she could graduate but also might be back. So I count 2 definite scholarships with a possibility of three. And it seems we have already comitted two to Thompson and Samuelson. Do we have a way of making room for Chidom and/or the other top recruits we are courting?Â

One of our current roster players (Kiran Lakhian) was recruited as a walk-on but was given a scholarship for this year because a slot was open. She may return to walk-on status next year.

Comp nails it. We have 4 openings. If we fail in either Admissions or recruiting Ruef could be back.
To me adding Thompson means 4 in this class for sure. But then I said earlier I have never seen her.Â
