Incoming frosh DB Willie Fletcher no longer with the team as an academic casualty; he's the third incoming player to not make the grade in that way. It seems kal has figured out an excellent strategy to boost its poor graduation rates for athletes: make sure they never enroll so they can't flunk out in school.

Indeed. But Stanford does it early enough in the process to allow recruits to go elsewhere if they're not admitted. That's a pretty important distinction.
